Hand hold please - tonsillitis

Hello all. For the first time in my life I have bacterial tonsillitis 😩 it came completely out of the blue and the illest I've ever been in my adult life.
I've now had 2 days of a 5 day course of antibiotics and im not feeling much better, in fact, last night was worse. The pain in my left ear is terrible (my left side has been worse since the beginning).
My tonsils are literally covered in pus. I can no longer see tonsil for it! It's also at the back of my tongue and under the tonsil, at least on my left side.
I've seen everything about a quinsy online and I don't believe that's what I have as although my left side is worse, it has been since the beginning and is only slightly more swollen, nothing significant.
Is it normal to still feel like this after 2 days of antibiotics? It's a 5 day course of Pen-V. Is it normal to still have this level of pus? And pain?
I don't think my GP will be interested in hearing from me today as the nurse was reluctant to prescribe antibiotics in the first place. So I need to wait until at least tomorrow I guess. Im just panicking as was expecting for everything to be on the up by this stage.
Any tips? Reassurance? I can swallow and am managing small amounts of food and plenty of liquids. Staggering the pain killers etc
Thanks

I get tonsillitis quite regularly, end of day 3 of abx I usually start to feel a bit better. Sympathies though, it does make you feel dreadful. Last time I had it my temp was 39.5 after paracetamol and I had to take liquid painkillers because I couldn't swallow tablets (or my own spit)

Also don't stagger your painkillers. Take two ibuprofen (if you can take it) and either two paracetamol OR two cocodamol at the same time. Perfectly safe and far far more effective

@SusanSHelit thank you, that's reassuring that it took 3 days of antibiotics for it to lift with you. I have been staggering so I don't get the awful couple of hours with no painkillers until I can take more 😥
The pus is unbelievable - more than in any pics I can find on Google. I hate the battles of dealing with GPs so I try to avoid them - just want to be better!

How are you feeling today op? Sounds awful!

If you can manage to, try gargling with soluble aspirin but don’t swallow if you have also taken ibuprofen.

Hello, so thankful to report that I'm feeling a lot better. The pain has eased a lot and the pus is diminishing. Hopefully will be useful for anyone that comes across this in the future - antibiotics took nearly 3 days to kick in for me. A lot of people on previous threads say they felt better within 24 hours so that had me panicking! Hopefully it's just upward from here! I've never been so unwell my life and can easily see how people used to die from it!!
