Pain after wisdom tooth removal

on Thursday I had 4 wisdom teeth removed under GA.

today the pain is pretty intense, but I’m concerned as it is my 3rd day on codeine now and I should really come off it to avoid becoming addicted. But I’m only just coping with the pain with codeine so terrified to come off it.

what should I do?

Sounds normal to me. The pain and swelling was indescribable after I had the same. I couldn’t even open my mouth properly for a few weeks and was on liquids and soft foods for the first week.

Call the dentist back. I've had all wisdom teeth out and after the initial soreness all was fine 24h later and I had more pain from a big filling. You possibly have an infection or a dry socket. It shouldn't really hurt much after 3 days as I understand.

I had a big molar out recently. nothing compared to 4 wisdom teeth, but did they advise gently rinsing with luke warm salt water? I found it did help and provided some relief.

Were you given advice on aftercare to prevent dry socket? You should be rinsing with tepid salty water frequently, don't spit out, just let water dribble away so you don't disturb the socket. If you are in that much pain you will need to return to your dentist to get the cavity packed. Sympathies, dental pain is the worst!
