my friend is concerned because sometimes after a bowel movement she has slight vaginal bleeding, she takes the mini pill so her bleeding pattern is rather erratic, now i personally think that the bleeding is caused by the pushing motion we use to empty our bowels, i meaqn if shes on the minipill there must be a small amount of blood sitting in the uterus (im on the minipill and havent bled in months) and maybe the pressure of using the toilet pushes it out? what do u all think? anyone familiar with this?

This is odd. Is she certain that the blood is coming from her vagina and not her bowel? I don't have any answers for this or even a guess but I would suggest she see her doc (or practice nurse if she would feel better)

She is probably spotting on account of being on the mini pill, I have always sort of started my period with a bowel movement, its always been this way, more so now that i have a marena coil and often only bleed following a bowel movement, and its definately coming from the front. I think i might have a small prolapse but i think that has nothing to do with it..

loopylou6 · 14/02/2008 13:25

yep 3Ddonut shes deffo sure its coming from the front. LEM it will reassure her that u have the same, im on the minipill myself and do vaguely remember whilst having one of my rare periods that it would all stop then i would spot after a bowel movement, i think maybe there is blood there but not enough to come out in period form but gets pushed out when we strain for a BM iyswim and dont even get me started on prolapses im having a very bad time atm with them

also LEM, do u bleed even when your not having a period after a bowel movement?

hmm, you learn something new everyday.....

lucyellensmum · 14/02/2008 13:34

loopy, before i had the coil i would often spot after a bowel movement in the few days before a period. but other than that, i wouldnt. But now that is pretty much the sum of my period. I do think that the straining probably dislodges what is there. What colour (sorry) is the blood? IT should be fairly obviousl if it is coming from the bowel, if it is then she MUST go to the doctors. If not then i wouldnt worry, spotting is commonplace with the minipill isnt it?

lucyellensmum · 14/02/2008 13:35

3D i could be wrong, but ive been like it, ooh, 20 years and had untold gynae investigations

loopylou6 · 14/02/2008 13:39

LEM she did panick it was coming from her bowel but after having her head down the toilet examining her poo [lol] and then doing a thourough investigation of her 'front' she determined it is DEFFO coming from the front, have just phoned her and asked what colour it is and she says it fresh red mixed with normal vaginal disharge and its only a very tiny amount IE a small smear of it. I think your spot on right LEM spotting is a problemw ith the mini pill and i think this is just being pushed down with the pressure of pooing
