Weight changes on amitriptyline?

I'm finally starting on this drug 10mg dose for migraine. Would be interested in hearing ppl's experiences on this drug and if/how it may have affected weight over time. If I'm honest I'm willing to trade off some weight gain if I must for a more pain-free life (if it works) ... but am keen to hear other's experiences

I was on it for vertigo, also 10mg.

it definitely made me hungry. I took it for a few months then stopped because I felt I was gaining weight.

Interestingly, the vertigo didn’t return

I've been taking 20mg daily for nerve pain for 2yrs and haven't experienced any weight gain or hunger side effects.

I was prescribed it for nerve pain. I took it for a few weeks but it made me so dopey I felt unsafe! It is so strange how it affects people differently. There was no noticeable change in my appetite and it did work for my pain though.

Good luck, I hope it works for you.

I was on it for about 4 years. It made me hungry but I was mindful of that when starting and was strict with myself regarding food.
So it’s not that you gain weight from taking the drug, it’s that you feel more hungry and if you’re not careful you gain weight.

It also made me very tired so I had to time it for 12 hours before I wanted to wake up, so took it at 7pm to wake up fresh and not in a zombie state at 7am.

As you say, the pay off was that it helped greatly with the pain.

I eventually found an amazing physiotherapist who helped me with the pain (despite X-rays, scans, pain killing injections and seeing specialists and other physiotherapists) and I am now almost pain free and drug free.

I hope it helps you OP x

It did nothing for my migraines sadly but didn't notice weight gain either

I take 10mg every night and have done for ages and haven’t noticed any weight changes but then I’m over weight already from the steroids and other medication I take for lupus and other issues.
