Lump behind partners ear

Hello,

My partner has this bump / swelling behind his right ear. It doesn’t hurt and he’s had it for about 3 months. He was sick with flu like symptoms a couple weeks before we discovered the bump and he’s been sick a couple times after that (lots of viruses going around). The bump is pretty hard, but it does appear to have gone down since the first time we noticed it. Any idea what this could be?

Isn't it just a swollen gland? One of my kids gets swollen nodules behind their ear when they have a virus. Takes a while to go.

He went to the doctor when he was sick and she wasn’t sure what it is. I’m a bit worried about it since it hasn’t gone in 3 months.

It's a swollen lymph node. I have them come and go frequently (huge one behind my right ear at the moment). If it is sore take some ibuprofen as it helps the inflammation.

I have literally just been to the drs about the same thing as I had a big swelling but had no cold/flu/illness so they wanted to check it. (Also NHS online said to contact them if no illness, so did an online triage) Told me to come back in a month if it’s still there to do bloods. So I would maybe get them to check it out if he isn’t Ill

Thanks. He went when he was sick and the doctor wasn’t sure what it is. I hope your situation gets sorted soon.

I got one on back of neck when I got a virus.. it has never gone down. Even been for a scan to have it checked and it was totally normal, just never settled back down. Try not to worry

pnams · 04/04/2023 21:20

Thank you! What kind of scan did you end up getting?

I often get this if I’m very run down and it is a lymph node that comes up.
I haven’t had any scans but dr wasn’t worried.

Sorry, it was an ultrasound

We went to an ENT and he wasn’t worried about it. He thought it may be a growing cysts since it goes up and down. The doctor did order an ultrasound but we didn’t get that done yet.

Hey any news on this as I have one too.

What happened with the lump behind your ear? Was it serious?
