Pains on left side

Over the last few days I've developed an ache on my left hand side in the area below my rib cage and above my hip bone. Last night it aches to lie on my left side and today it's aching more. When sitting down I get pains coming and going and more when standing.

I feel as if I need to go to the toilet, but I don't need to if that makes sense, and I'm not constipated. My stomach feels heavy. I feel very gassy, especially after I've eaten. That said I've not eaten too much today as worried that might cause pain.

Does anyone know what it might be or anything that might help alleviate it?

Also to add my stomach is also gurgling a lot and the pains are in stomach today as well. Like stomach cramps and trapped gas.

Sounds like it could be diverticulitis. Google it: usually clears up by itself but can get infected and need antibiotics. See a GP or 111 if it's still bad tomorrow. In the long term, eat more fibre and avoid small nuts/seeds etc. In the short term, a low fibre diet will help (non challenging food) and lots of liquids.

Thank you @YouCanCallMeA1 I thought my diet was okay as I'm mainly vegetarian and eat lots of lentil Dahl, vegetable chilli, vegetable casseroles, etc. My fruit intake over the winter hasn't been as high but will up that again.

Interesting about the nuts as I've just started eating Brazil nuts every day but I'd think of these as large rather than small.
