UTI - is this normal?

Hi, hope I’ve put this thread in the right place

I’ve had a UTI before but so long ago I don’t remember when or how bad it was but I have one at the moment and I’m a bit shocked how bad it is!

I’ve just started antibiotics for it, I don’t have pain when peeing but feel like I keep needing to go, not much happens, strong smelling urine etc.

the thing I’m wondering if it’s normal is the abdominal pain!? It’s a dull, pressure kind of pain low down but very intense! It eases off slightly during the day but it’s awful in the morning, yesterday and today. I have to lie on my back and feel like I can barely move.

Just wondered if anyone else has experienced this, I didn’t realise a uti can be this painful!

Sounds like a typical uti. I have them regularly as I have a bladder condition. You will need to drink LOTS of water to flush it through and take painkillers regularly - ibuprofen is best as it’s anti inflammatory (as advised by my urologist) but obviously take them with food as they can irritate your stomach. If there’s no improvement after 2/3 days of the antibiotics you might need different ones.

Thanks for replying, I’m drinking lots of water and have just taken ibuprofen.

Sorry you experience this regularly, it’s awful!

Poor you, yes it is awful. I’ve been under a urologist for them since I was 14 - I’m now 42. I take daily long term antibiotics (cefalexin) which I increase as and when I need to, and amitriptyline at night which helps with the nerve pain associated with it. (I have had a cystoscopy recently which showed patches of inflammation associated with intercystinal cystitis, effectively long term bladder inflammation). I hope you feel better soon. 💐💐
