Chest x-ray

I went to the GP for a persistent cough, had same one in sept, no pains just clear phlegm but this time around some green then to clear. He suspects asthma as I’m congested a lot too. I was referred for a chest x-ray on Monday, I asked him out right if he was concerned about lung cancer he said no (I am early 30s non smoker and healthy). However the X-ray is for 12th April and this appears super fast he said 4-6 weeks. However it looks like the clinic take walk ins!
i am charting my peak flow for 6 weeks and have inhalers, I don’t get breathless it’s more just congested! I do have health anxiety so it’s been hard.

I also had a persistent cough, and also have health anxiety - strangely my GP sent me for a chest x-ray and nasal endoscopy before they even considered asthma/an inhaler.

Chest was clear.
Throat was clear.
Inhaler seems to be working (though took a week or two, it's the brown one).

I'm not sure what your question is - but if it's "should I go to the clinic as a walk-in rather than waiting 12 days?" - then sure, why not, that's what walk in clinics are there for.

But as a vote of reassurance, there's lots of weird, ongoing, post-viral/viral chesty symptoms going around at the moment (it's been over 8 months for me). And it's likely not to be anything serious.

I wasn't breathless either - but my chest felt woolly and wheezy.

And I had cough that woke me up every night for months, when I'd cough until I gagged (gross, not recommended).

It’s more i Am nervous it’s bad news! I’m fine to wait until 12th. I’ve had a pain lower right side rub for 2.5 years nothing painful enough for meds and think it’s more gut related, I mentioned this to the Dr and he wasn’t concerned. I have never coughed up blood just blood from nose that’s went to throat when clearing as get dry nose! @Todaynotalways it’s not easy having health anxiety!

@Todaynotalways yes I’ve had wheezing! It’s going away a bit not not so bad

Not to be hugely cynical but GPs are being incentivised to send patients down the three week pathway for cancer investigation so I wouldn't read too much into speed of investigation. It's happened to me 3 times in the past year for various symptoms including a chest x-ray so don't worry too much

Thanks that’s reassuring :)

The waits were pretty long at one point - the GP might just have said 4-6 weeks just in case. I needed a routine ultrasound on my hand and they told me 6 months but it was done in 4.
If they tell you the worst case for the wait you're less likely to be annoyed!

I’ve had a cough (and health anxiety!) because of post-nasal drip since having Covid in 2020! I finally saw a GP in person last week after a gazillion telephone appointments and actually asked her about lung cancer and should I have a chest x-ray - she said I had no symptoms she would link to lung cancer, and that there were loads of different reasons for coughs.

When I pushed her on the symptoms I would be having she said fatigue, weight loss, blood, feeling generally unwell, and repeated chest infections. my cough comes from my throat (mucus 🤢) rather than my chest though, and my chest was clear when she listened to it.
