Worried about possible melanoma- dark line on big toe- pic included

What could this be on my big toe?
I have had a dark spot for a while but just yesterday noticed it going vertical up the nail.

I would get it checked because the actual nail bed also looks damaged/sore. A black line going up the nail isn't really the important bit, more if its creating changes to the nail bed itself from what I understand.

No, not painful.

Let us know what the outcome is? Hopefully something like simple fungal cream will sort it.
