Cancer - how were you told? Timeline after biopsy question

Sorry - I know this has probably been done before, but I haven’t been able to find the info.

Im on month three of breast cancer investigations. I’ve had two biopsies, and then on Friday an operation for to collect a larger sample.

Ive had my appointment letter for the results, it’s next Thursday- so a fortnight from the operation. My question is whether they would get in touch beforehand if they’d found cancer?

A really helpful poster on a previous thread explained the timeline of processing samples. I know there are MDTs on Thurs and Fri, do you think they would call if it was bad news or tell me at my appointment?

Others’ experiences would be really welcome.

Go to the cancer support post on this section, people are really helpful on these, they will be able to tell you timelines. Fingers crossed for you.x

Previous posted suggestion is a v good one as I have lurked dipping into reading the thread mentioned recently but am not ready to join in (apologies all the lovely people on that thread).

I am so very sorry you are in this position and the waiting (for me) was the worst part apart from hearing the words that I had cancer - I was diagnosed with bc in January -my timeline was:

Routine mammogram early Dec

Called back for second mammogram ( by phone but I thought they probably had a bad image so wasn't concerned) which I had 3 weeks after first (Christmas got in way of earlier Appt)

At second mammogram told prior to it that they had seen a small area for concern, would like to do another mammogram and depending on what that showed follow by an ultrasound and needle biopsy - I did have the ultrasound and biopsy at that Appt

I was booked in for results 2 weeks later - I'm sure I was told that all appts are in person at my hospital whether good or bad news

I went to Appt and was told face to face that I had bc , type and what the plan of action was. It was a tremendous shock to me as I have been having yearly mammograms for several years and do not have a lump of any kind. The staff broke the news factually but gently and with real understanding/empathy and all the way through the process it's been helpful, informative and amazing care that I am very appreciative of .

Thank you and sorry about your diagnosis. I hope treatment is going okay. I had been hoping that they would call/book me in earlier if there was bad news but it sounds like that wasn’t your experience. Ah well. Only another 6 days of waiting. I can do this.

Im reluctant to post on cancer thread too, though many thanks @Museya15 for your reply to my post.

Thank you - I had my surgery a couple of weeks ago and find results from that out next week

I know the next 6 days will be tough - I just tried to keep as busy as I could so I had less headroom to think about it .

Once I had the news and a plan of action I felt better in myself

I shall be thinking of hoping things go really well

Thinking of You & hoping things go really well (I'm rubbish typing on my phone )

Nimbostratus100 · 31/03/2023 14:34

the waiting is the worst thing, for me it was an appointment 3 weeks after the biopsy
