Sex isn't worth it!!

Every time I have sex I get a water infection so bad the next day I am in agony.
I don't want a sexless marriage and feel sorry for my husband but I am at my wits end.

I can't be the only person this happens to can I?

Are you making sure to pee afterwards?

DOBARDAN · 04/04/2023 21:03

Could be that you and your partner needs to wash before sex

Have you seen your gp and a urologist? You may need prophylactic antibiotics.

I am in complete agony with the same thing. Day 7 now and symptoms not gone away my bladder feels so full! I’m at my wits end

Branleuse · 06/03/2024 17:25

Is he clean?

I know the original message is old but @Charlylau2412 I hope you feel better soon, antibiotics should sort you out.

This happened to me once and the GPs first question was whether I'd had intercourse the day before! And he said I needed to make sure I wee afterwards. He said it like it was the most obvious thing in the world and I couldn't believe I hadn't gotten the memo.

I always down a pint of water after sex now and wee straightaway then again a couple of hours later from that pint. I do this religiously and haven't had a problem since.

I had this with Dh when we first got together 2 years ago. I was in agony and there was nothing wrong. Dh was washing & I kept having to have antibiotics. I was peeing afterwards but the only thing that really helped was literally going in the shower afterwards and washing straight after!! It's completely calmed down now and I haven't been in pain since (it was about 2 months when we first got together)

The advice above is good. I had lots of UTIs last year, mostly after sex as well. I went to the GP asking to look into whether it could be peri menopause related/hormonal. (After reading there can be a link). So this could be a consideration.

Long story short in my case constipation turned out to be the likely cause! 😳i had IBS but didn't think/realise I was chronically constipated. They did also do an ultrasound to check bladder capacity and emptying. I've been taking laxatives since then, which while I'd like not to have to, has meant no UTIs since summer! I've felt much more relaxed about sex and not worrying I will need antibiotics yet again. I still wee and wash after dtd but don't feel paranoid.

Wanted to share in case it helps someone else!

there are preventative antibiotics that would have been the next thing to try if that hadn't helped. Hope you get it sorted, it's horrible.

MenopauseSucks · 07/03/2024 01:05

I used to get this & yes it bloody hurts!

Pre-menopause I used to drink loads of water, pee straight after sex then use a Lota full of cold water to pour over my undercarriage, front to back - no need for soap, just cooling the area down.

The only thing that's changed post-menopause is I'm on HRT & use Vagifem to combat vaginal atrophy but the rest is the same.

My GP told me about the peeing & cold water wash & it has always worked.
