My dh has to take Doxycycline at the moment. It is best with food, yet the food should contain no zinc, iron or calcium. He can not eat much fruit or vegetables for medical reasons. What food can he take with the medication so he doesn't feel sick? Many thanks for any help.

when I’ve had it I always had it after breakfast and dinner as it made me sick if I took it on an empty stomach. I don’t think it matters what you’ve eaten I think it’s more to avoid any supplements than food with zinc ect. Make sure he takes it with a full glass of water and stays sat up for at least an hour after taking it. It’s horrible stuff I got some anti sickness tablets off the doctor last time I had to have it so I could keep it down.

A bit of encouragement: I get horribly, horribly ill on almost all antibiotics, but was completely fine on doxycycline, so let's hope that he is the same.

What PP said.
I was advised not to take with dairy and limit dairy to two hours before.

it doesn’t need to be avoided with foods containing zinc or iron, just do not take with zinc or iron supplements.
I like taking mine with something stodgy like toast or bread. I will have a glass of milk first thing in the morning and then maybe take my tablet with lunch (and no milk then).

Limit antacids with it too. Should be fine once he gets used to taking them.

Like Splodger I have to take an antiemetic before doxycycline.
It makes my stomach squirm!

Joe your little one is ok. 💖
