Diarhea since Friday, should I take immodium/gp?

Hello! Would appreciate any advice! On Thursday I started feeling ill, I fell asleep very early and didn't eat anything for dinner, on Friday I woke up and had my felt sick, I was constipated but once that had passed and since then have had diarhea maybe 8-10 times a day, I had body aches & headache initially but that's gone. Still woke this morning feeling sick and had to dash home to the toilet after dropping my son at nursery. I don't have fever
My husband is working away and I don't know anyone who can help me here, should I take Imodium to get on with my life? How long should it normally take for a stomach bug to go away? Thank you

After this amount of time I would. Sometimes the bowel gets a bit stroppy after a bug.

Usual advice is don't take Imodium, if it's a bug it needs to 'get out'

midgemadgemodge · 27/03/2023 10:48

Have you tried stopping eating for 48 hrs to give your gut time to recover ?

BRAT diet- bananas, apple sauce, rice, toast... but it sounds a bit like covid to me...

Thank you for all replies, I would prefer to not take immodium if I can avoid it, the thought of food makes me feel Envy but I've just been eating little things here and there and rice. I forgot to mention I'm breastfeeding so can't not eat :(

It depends. I wouldn’t consult a doctor at this point, tbh, but if it’s really dramatic and/or you are feeling very unwell, then you might well make a different call.

Imodium doesn’t always bung you up in a bad way. I have chronic constipation so you’d think I’d really cause problems for myself if I took it when things were a bit loose but it worked well for me recently without any lingering effects.

It should clear up after a week - if not then speak to GP and they can run a stool test.

Thank you for the replies, I took immodium this morning and my gas seems to be/smell worse 😔 and I feel worse after taking it. Spoke to 111 yesterrday and gp today who just told me to take Imodium and dioralite
