Best foods for staying regular

I've really wanted to improve my gut health. I've started eating much cleaner and have about 4/5 portions of fruit and veg a day, a smoothie for breakfast and have been taking a live culture supplement. However, I'm constipated! It doesn't make sense to me, but was wondering if you could recommend any good additions to keep you regular?

Chia seeds, psyllium, more water and exercise and get a squatty potty for the bathroom.

NetZeroZealot · 26/03/2023 10:02

Chia seeds are amazing.

For breakfast I have overnight oats made with kefir, chia seeds & blueberries & my gut health has never been better.

NetZeroZealot · 26/03/2023 10:02

You could try adding chia to your smoothie.

Rubbishsleepdotcm · 26/03/2023 10:03

Kiwi fruit or kiwi smoothie from either Aldi or Sainsburys.

Flaxseed too. But it's a bit too effective!

Crumpetdisappointment · 26/03/2023 10:03

Fruit and fibre cereal every morning works wonders!

BloomingHyacinths · 26/03/2023 15:26

I take a drug which causes constipation as a side effect. For a while I took the lactulose I was given on prescription but I manage it with diet now. Specifically breakfast.
Prunes or prune juice essential. I get the ready to eat prunes or tinned and chop them in to whatever esle I eat.
I eat plain oats with chia seeds and milk almost every day but occasionally All Bran or bran flake.
I also eat a LOT of fruit.
Also remember fluid essential, if you don't drink enough you get constipated.

Yellowdays · 26/03/2023 17:14

Plenty of fluid and carbs such as porridge, as well as the fruit/veg. Fluid is important when you increase your fibre intake, or you do become constipated.

LadyGardenersQuestionTime · 26/03/2023 17:17

I make veg soup and have that for most lunches - it has a good dollop of soup mix or lentils or other legumes in it, but also the veg is mostly unpeeled.
