Heart palpitations?

Any help please
The last week I keep waking up with really fast heart beats like I can feel it through my body it's horrible and literally waking me up in the night and doesn't go away. I have it in the day too but not as bad. I've noticed I've had acid reflux every night also could this be linked? Should I be worried? I had full bloods and chest X-ray recently ( due to having chest pains frequently and struggling to breathe) but it came back normal other than low iron. I feel like something is going on inside and no one is listening to me thanks

Hi...low iron can cause heart palpatations

Paperdoll44 · 21/03/2023 23:34

I had this for about a year. I had a heart scan and was told everything was fine and it was ‘just anxiety’.

I started HRT, started taking B12 supplements and beta blockers. Much better now.

Its one of those things….if it is anxiety, worrying about it makes it worse.

Probably best to get it checked out though just in case it’s not anxiety.

It could be dehydration, so maybe increase your water intake

My DS had palpitations very regularly after many tests it was found he was sensitive to caffeine.
I also started to get them regularly before starting HRT, mostly gone now.

I had this, for me it was sorted with some blood tests. I was low on Folic acid and perimenopausal. See your GP for some blood tests as often there is a very simple answer.

Low B12?
Caffeine?
Are you taking pain killers with Caffeine in them?

justasking111 · 22/03/2023 00:08

Acid reflux does it every time for me. Your GP should be suggesting PPIs. You will need to adjust your diet as well.

Hi , a HCP at our surgery diagnosed an irregular pulse , one of the symptoms was palpitations ,some time ago, I had a holter monitor and a cardio gram scan and was put on to beta blockers which worked well for years. The palpitations, irregular heartbeats and faintness came on again last year and I am now having further investigations. Please check in with your gp, heart palpitations can be caused by a lot of things and can be sorted by a number of things, many of them simple, but some need further interventions and investigations to prevent thrombosis or a stroke.

If you have low iron, your ferritin (iron stores) will likely be incredibly low and this will cause heart palpitations. Ferritin levels are not routinely checked in FBC tests (due you suffer heavy periods?). Ask for your ferritin to be checked. I get heart palpitations and it’s due to low iron. Check out the ‘low iron without anemia’ Facebook group.
