Hi all,

I just need a hand hold or a bit of comfort really. 😞 I was referred under the 2ww for a few moles because a few of them are what they consider atypical. One in particular is a lot darker and looks different to my other moles (and is the one I was most worried about) Anyway I had my appointment today and the Dr said she wasn’t too worried and thinks it’s just a mole (trying to cling onto that) that has changed slightly but isn’t cancerous but she wants it removed. I have crippling health anxiety and it has sent me spiralling. The Dr tried her best to reassure me but I was so upset and panicky. Has anyone else had a dodgy mole removed? Looking for positive stories really.

Thank you xxx

Just a little update,

So I have my removal appointment (punch biopsy I think) for the 19th April, will let you know how I get on and what the result is when I know xx

good luck (I’m sure all is okay). I feel loads better after seeing a dermatologist for all my moles, I’m doing it once a year for whole body check. Good luck OP.

My BIL had a mole removed. It was a malignant melanoma. Stage 1. No further treatment needed other than checking the lymph’s nearby.

maddy68 · 09/04/2023 20:13

I have had lots removed and investigation. All have been nothing to worry about

Footle · 09/04/2023 21:57

@potteringaround2 , a punch biopsy means removing a little bit of the whatever-it-is so it can be tested. If the whole thing needs removing , that will be a separate procedure.

Rosecat22 · 11/04/2023 17:33

If it makes you feel at all better I'm going through similar right now, but can't even get it examined by a dermatologist until the 22nd ☹️ Mine showed up about 3 years ago and has grown slightly since, and I've only just realised its "new". Was a total wreck all weekend, am fully expecting to be told it needs to come off.

They biopsy on loads of moles out of an abundance of caution, because it is trivially easy to sort out melanoma if it's caught early. Last time I saw a GP about a mole, he pointed to a different one I've had unchanged since I was a literal child and started querying me about it as it was dark and uneven!

Rosecat22 · 11/04/2023 17:37

Oh, for further reassurance I also had one removed in my 20's that had started flat when I was a kid, but had gotten pretty fleshy and raised over time. It was huge (hitting the golden 6mm mark) and dark.

Got it sent off for a biopsy, it was fine.

Thank you for your reassurance,it means a lot. Surprisingly I have calmed down quite a bit (normally I’m inconsolable) as I have had a four week wait but I’m sure I’ll be a bag of nerves when waiting for the results. I’m so happy all was okay for you xx

I have a lot of moles but this was looks different to all of my others,I’m hoping and praying she’s just being extra cautious…I am so relieved it’s coming off though, one less thing to worry about! I’m so sorry your having to wait a while 😔 I know the waiting is just so difficult. I’m really not great with uncertainty which I know is the health anxiety talking but my goodness it’s horrendous. I’m crossing my fingers that everything will come back normal for you, hand hold for the wait xx

I had one removed. It looked terrible! All was fine. The doctor subsequently told me he was concerned by the look of it so if your doc is telling you it's fine then this might be (kindly) a good opportunity to address your health anxiety

Thank you so much for your response. I’m so happy everything came back normal for you. And you are absolutely right it does need addressing xx

I’ve had 11 removed, all melanoma, I feel
so thankful to have had them removed. Some needed extra skin removed and I had one lot of lymph nodes removed. I’d urge everyone to get anything dodgy looking examined.

Mumma2Ro · 12/04/2023 20:41

good luck OP

Hi,

I know this is an old post but first time posting and hoping for a little help if possible please. I’ve had a mole on my arm that has become darker so went to the doctor who referred me under the two week wait pathway. I saw the dermatologist today and he agreed that it needs to be taken out as it’s darker than the others. He didn’t say much else apart from that. I’ve just had the appointment date through and it’s not for another month. I rang them and explained how worried I was and asked if they had anything sooner but the lady on the phone just said that I’m being seen within the month (appointment date is 2 days short of a month away). I literally can’t think about anything else and think I’m going to drive myself mad with worry waiting another month. Just wondered if waiting a month is the norm?

Thank you so much x

ettieb · 27/09/2023 17:59

I have health anxiety so I feel your pain. I went to Dr earlier in the year about a lesion on my arm. She didn't know if it looked dodgy so referred me. I nearly passed out when I got a text saying I was on the 2 week cancer pathway. I was so anxious and went to the appointment and said then that it looked OK and they were going to remove it and do a biopsy just to make sure. Treatment was fine and result came back fine. I really don't think they say they don't think things look dodgy if they have any doubt. They seem to do the procedure a lot as it is relatively quick.

BettyBallerina · 27/09/2023 17:59

Yes, last year I saw a dermatologist for an untreated batter, she checked my back and advised one mole be removed. It was not suspicious but had the potential to turn nasty. Removal itself was absolutely fine. Local anaesthetic, healed quickly. Glad I had it removed.

MumK89 · 27/09/2023 18:19

Thank you both for replying. I had one removed back in 2018 which was fine but didn’t have to wait as long. Back then I saw the gp, she then removed it the following week and I got the results two weeks later. This time I was referred to the hospital which took two weeks and now another month for it to be removed. It just makes me worry but I guess waiting lists are just longer these days? Really appreciate you replying, like I said I’ve never posted on here before so thank you.

I had a mole for years then suddenly it went very dark and what used to be a round mole was now the shape of Australia, it was on my back so goodness knows how long it had been changing for, had it removed under the 2 week pathway and it came back clear, I was so relieved I was convinced it was malignant.

I know this is an old post but I've found one on my back I didn't even know was there really! It's definitely got bigger as I checked a random photo.of my back from 4 years ago (still no more than 5mm or so). Will get it checked next week.
