Remmy123 · 19/03/2023 21:15

I am getting thrush every month - it clears up but I still get lots of discharge so I have to wear a pad now.

I've got it again now and totally fed up

any advice to get rid for good?

Go to your GP. Recurrent Thrush can be down to diabetes. Also it can be down to hygiene; ensure you partner washes before and you wash after.

I had this, every 2 weeks for months...it was awful! I eventually got rid of it by treating myself every week for 6 weeks. It seemed to break the cycle

Thank you!

@polkadotpixie with the canesten pessery? Think I may do the same . Driving me mad

Are you using treatment for it (ie oral or pessaries)?

it can be caused or aggravated by a number of things (some medical conditions so worth checking with GP) but also anything that messes with your bacterial balance eg not wearing breathable underwear, douching, having long baths using certain bubble baths/bath bombs, using bio laundry powder etc

Remmy123 · 19/03/2023 21:36

@Bubbleses thanks

im using the cream and the pessary

i feel like it may be sress related as got worse since I've started a new job (or maybe coincidence)

I've just got some femfresh for the shower

i am also probably a peri menopausal!

Don't use femfresh.

Go to the gp and get the course of the tablets. You need to take them for months once a week (iirc you take them every day for so many days then once a week for 3 or 6 months)

Try wellgard vitaflora probiotics. Really made a difference. I used to get it regularly due to diabetes , but this is good.

WelshWondergirl · 19/03/2023 21:42

Don't use Femfresh! Or soap, shower gel etc. Just plain water.
Or you must use soap use a tiny bit and don't get it inside your vulva, just do your groin.
Wear pure cotton knickers and don't use fabric softener.
Let your bits breathe by not wearing underwear 24/7
Try not to eat much sugary food.
These things all help for me.

My gp tested my zinc level as it can cause this if it's low. Mine was and when I got the levels back to normal I stopped getting it. I'd been suffering for almost 2 years.

Polly1974 · 19/03/2023 21:44

Are you sure it's thrush? Not sure what age you are, but if you are peri menopausal then some vaginal atrophy symptoms are very similar to that of thrush, and OTC treatments could be making it worse. I'd suggest a visit to dr or nurse and discuss potential that it might be something other than thrush. Px

polkadotpixie · 19/03/2023 21:46

@Remmy123 No, I took the fluconazole capsule every week for 6 weeks

It's much cheaper to buy online than Canesten is in the shops, about £2/capsule
