Endoscopy clear so what's wrong with me?

I've just had an endoscopy that's come back completely clear. Yet for the past 9 months I've had every symptom of stomach ulcers. Burning in pit of stomach, acid reflux, nausea 24/7, bloating after eating. What the hell could possibly causing these symptoms if the endoscopy found nothing?

Weirdly, low stomach acid can cause those symptoms. You don’t have thyroid problems by chance do you? Apparently low stomach acid is common, with hypothyroidism at least.

“If you don't have enough stomach acid, you can't digest food properly or absorb its nutrients. This leads to indigestion, malnutrition and sometimes bacterial overgrowth.
...
Immediate symptoms involve indigestion, including:
Abdominal pain.
Bloating.
Gas.
Diarrhea.
Constipation.
Undigested food in poop.
Reflux.
Heartburn.”

I cured all the above by chugging a teaspoon of apple cider vinegar in a small amount of water morning and evening.

Gallbladder?

Justonedayatatime11 · 16/03/2023 19:35

@ReallyReallyRealThings that's interesting, I'd never heard of it. I take 60mg of Lansoprazole daily and have done since 2019...
Recently had full bloods including thyroid and all came back fine except ferritin which was 12

Why such a high dose, do you have Zollinger-Ellison syndrome ?

Justonedayatatime11 · 16/03/2023 19:43

@lljkk no, it's what I was prescribed when I was put on 1000mg Naproxen daily

Lansoprazole affects absorption of iron so it’s no wonder your ferritin is so low, you must feel dreadful!

JustDanceAddict · 16/03/2023 20:10

Mine was clear too! Really frustrating.
Do you have silent reflux symptoms too like sore throat/hoarse voice?

BHRK · 16/03/2023 20:14

You need to go back to your GP. Could be loads of things. If you’re in pain and nauseous like that you need further checks

Justonedayatatime11 · 16/03/2023 20:26

I have a follow up GP appointment first thing tomorrow morning so will see where we go next.
Relieved as I am that they didn't find anything, it's also frustrating that I still have no answers, I'm living off plain toast and water!

@Justonedayatatime11 - did you find out what was going on? I'm in a similar position with my son.

Justonedayatatime11 · 26/04/2023 14:44

@spiderlight not yet. My GP has written to a specialist for further advice and I have an appointment next Wednesday. Happy to come back and update after if it may help

Thank you - I'd really appreciate that. I hope you get some answers. I've been looking at eosinophilic gastritis. Have they tested you for that?

Butningembers · 11/02/2024 22:09

I know this is an old post but wondering if the OP got any answers on this?

Justonedayatatime11 · 11/02/2024 22:58

@Butningembers unfortunately not. It eased off for a while before coming back with a vengeance at the end of last year. I have to admit I didn't bother going back to the GP with it this time, I'm just trying to manage it the best I can
