I opened the oven earlier, and put my hand over it whilst it was steaming still, as a result I have a burnt thumb, I have had it under cold water for about an hour, it is still absolutely killing me, what can I do??

cold water for as long as you can - stops the skin from "cooking" more (nice thought eh)
then get bicarbonate of soda and get a good sized dollop of it on a tissue or hanky and shove burnt digit into it. You won't blister anywhere near as badly and it seems to take the heat off it. wrap up with dry dressing if needed and bicarb inside, for overnight.

PS Am still cringing for you. did similar last week [owwww]

Might sound silly, but have you taken paracetamol or ibuprofen to ease the pain? If it doesn't get better got to A&E for some magic cream. Can't remember what it's called, but I drained a pan of veg over my feet, and the magic cream was wonderful!

VictorianSqualor · 11/02/2008 22:04

I had taken some paracetamol not long before I did it for a sore throat and am pg so cant take anything else, it's easing a lot now though.
