Severe hunger pains even though I’m full?

You know the pain you get in your stomach when you’re really hungry as in its way past the rumbling stage? The last few days I’ve been getting it after I’ve eaten and it’s even waking me in the night where I have to go downstairs and make some toast otherwise I can’t get back to sleep.

I’ve just finished dinner and I’m now thinking I need something else to eat because my stomach feels so hungry but I had a good meal so how can I be?

No other health issues that I’m aware of the only thing I can think of is I’ve had a lot going on lately but not sure I feel any more stressed than usual.

any ideas before I pester my dr with it?

I think this is the sign of an ulcer or a hiatus hernia! Though I have it and I don't have either!

Sounds like you have an excess acid problem. I had this for 6 months solid. Once the doctor gave me an acid reducing medication, it went away! See your GP, but they won't be concerned I don't think, they will probably prescribe you omeprazole

I've had this with peri-menopause. HRT took care of my other issues, but this hunger thing persists, luckily not all the time. I would say I experience this about five times a month and it lasts about a full day. I eat, I am almost immediately very, very hungry, like I didn't eat anything at all. Like you, I've had to get out of bed to eat something because it's actually painful. It's so bizarre. Health wise, I'm very healthy, so no idea why it happens, I've just chosen to blame peri-menopause 🤣

Are you exhausted? Food is a substitute for sleep, your body craves food and often high energy foods (chocolate, sugar) when you're not getting enough sleep. Whenever I feel like that it's because Im exhausted.

Gastritis started like this for me.

I get this and take esomeprazole when it flares up. It's too much stomach acid.

Towcat15 · 12/03/2023 21:21

Stomach acid makes sense - I’m just not used to feeling it that low down I might occasionally have heartburn but that’s it. Will pop a couple of gaviscon and see if that helps - this is not good for my waist line!

Just a thought - are you by any chance taking erythromycin?

I get this before a migraine strikes.
