What's the current Covid advice?

Had booster late october and found out today I have Covid. Messaged work (school) and asked what they want me to do.
They've told me to stay off (fair enough) but when I asked for how long, she didn't reply.

So how long should I be isolating for now?

My sons school said it's only 3 days from symptoms they have to stay off now so I guess same for staff - longer if you are still unwell I suppose. But as you don't legally have to test or isolate anymore many don't and therefore it's rife again. I'm just recovering and thankfully it was more like a heavy cold for a few days than anything else this time.

BCBird · 12/03/2023 18:34

I was under the impression that if u felt ok you were to go in😫I am glad your school told you to stay off. One of my colleagues has said she has it. When I asked if she was going to stay at hime, she said she would see how she feels. I am.bricking it in case she does come in🙄. I haven't had it- go to school but keep my distance, wear a mask and live as a semi recluse. Wish Covid would get lost. Take care.

Can I ask, not being snarky? Have you your vaccines and if so why are you so worried?

Badger1970 · 12/03/2023 18:37

DD had it 2 weeks ago and she works for the local county council. She was told to work from home until she had a negative test, which took 4 days. She's had 3 vaccines and had Covid 3 times ... but this time she didn't feel at all unwell and was a bit fed up at being at home.

Verylongtime · 12/03/2023 18:37

I have Covid now. There are no official isolation rules. I have had all the vaccinations, but I’m very ill and I have been off sick for a week. I’m going to try working tomorrow- I wfh - but I’m not sure if I will be able to manage.

BCBird · 12/03/2023 18:41

I have had my vaccines but I have underlying health conditions. I simply don't want to he ill. The vaccine publicity has really annoyed me. It almost as if some people think the vaccine will stop you getting it. Wish Covid would get lost

hellodarknessmyoldfriend22 · 12/03/2023 18:41

Official NHS advice is adults should avoid other people 'if they can' for 5 days. For kids it's 3days.

Your work may want you in if you feel ok though as it's only advice

dementedpixie · 12/03/2023 18:42

It's advised to stay away for 5 days for adults and 3 days for children but it's not law.

MajorCarolDanvers · 12/03/2023 18:42

Stay at home until you feel better. Once better go back to work.

NHS says

You should:
• try to stay at home and avoid contact with other people for 5 days
• avoiding meeting people at higher risk from COVID-199_ for 10 days

But this advice. It's not required.

DoesItMakeYouFeelBetter · 12/03/2023 18:45

I work in a school and we have to abide by the current council-set rules, which is five days at home from when you test positive.

I think most people know the vaccines don’t stop you getting it but it makes it milder and people are just getting on with their lives which means going to work if they feel well enough. Covid will never go away and is just another illness now.

I don’t think anyone thinks the vaccines will stop you getting it. But I had it pre vaccine and post vaccine. Post vaccine I still felt a bit shit but not for long and was never as ill as pre-vax.

Plodstop · 12/03/2023 18:54

Thanks everyone. I am in an 'at risk' group myself (blood clots in past) so i do understand your concern BC. I didn't want to just turn up because I know there are vulnerable adults and kids at work. I just hope I haven't passed it on to any of these people.

This is the second time I’ve had Covid, and this time is definitely worse.

Oh no, really?

I've had it twice before as well but it was mild. I hope this is the same.

If you work in a school then adults have to isolate for 5 days, kids for 3 days.

Advice is that you don’t have to test unless advised to do so by a medical professional.

NHS staff are advised to test twice a week still.

smooththecat · 12/03/2023 19:09

Go forth and multiply.

Abraxan · 12/03/2023 19:12

I've just tested positive today too and also teach.
My schoolI'm;t an academy or anything, so follows the LEA guidelines. Ours says 3 days for children and 5 days for adults, with today being day 0 apparently.

LividNC · 12/03/2023 19:14

My TA was in all last week, wearing a mask, told me he was “ill”, only said it was covid Friday afternoon.

Our school clearly has a warm bodies policy 😳

Abraxan · 12/03/2023 19:14

I've had 5 vaccines - last one in September.
I'm classed as vulnerable and eligible for antiviral treatment. Had it last time and waiting firms phone call tomorrow after reporting today’s result.
I teach infants do there are no masks or keeping distances anyway.

Why not ask for advice from school or send a message? I
I'm sorry but that's a bit inconsiderate.
Is he agency and maybe wouldn't get paid?

I didn't know about the antiviral treatment. Does it just apply to certains groups? I think I'm group 5.

Some workplaces do still require you to stay off until a negative test after 5 days. My own work place will ask you to work from home if you are well enough to work but a friend works in an NHS call centre and she is unable to actually work at home but has to stay off until two negative tests after 5 days. She has felt physically well enough to work but they say they can't afford to have it passed around the whole office and possibly more people off .

Plodstop · 12/03/2023 21:21

Do I need to report the positive test? I bought it in the chemist but school says they need to log the result and go through process. Does this mean I just tell them I have Covid?

OP posts:
dementedpixie · 12/03/2023 21:26

You cant report shop bought tests on the nhs site. Maybe send them a picture of the positive test.
