What's the current Covid advice?

Had booster late october and found out today I have Covid. Messaged work (school) and asked what they want me to do.
They've told me to stay off (fair enough) but when I asked for how long, she didn't reply.

So how long should I be isolating for now?

Ok.

In my work (nhs) it's 5 days then start daily testing and can go back when we have 2 negatives in a row

Plodstop · 12/03/2023 22:03

Are people still taking tests routinely imamum?
I just took one on the off chance because I had a cold and was supposed to be car sharing tomorrow. I haven't seen anyone take them in ages though or even mention Covid tbh for ages.

Not in my workplace, at least not us admin and receptionists. We are asked to only test if we have symptoms. I expect that the clinicians still do test regularly and are probably expected to. I think the same rules about retuning to work are the same though.

Don't know if it's the same for all nhs work places though

No, I took one on the off-chance - I had some tests knocking around - because this cold I had was so bad. I absolutely never expected Covid. I haven’t actually left the house since December for other health reasons, so Covid never occurred to me.

I test as I'm classed as being more vulnerable and it's the way I can access antivirals, which should be taken within the first 5 days.
I get free tests.

Abraxan · 13/03/2023 10:08

If you report the test (you can report shop bought Ines too) and your medical records show you are likely eligible you will get an email and/or,text from the nhs soon after.

BellatrixLestrangesHeatedCurlers · 13/03/2023 10:21

we have to WFH until we get two negative tests in a row but that's our work policy, not a blanket one.

How do you report them? I can only see how to report NHS ones. I reported mine, as it was an old NHS free one, and then got a text message back about also uploading to the specialist Covid app (which I no longer have) so they could instigate Contact and Trace -is that still being done?

Plodstop · 13/03/2023 12:45

I Couldn't find where to report mine online as shop bought.
Not sure how to do it either.

School were happy with a photo of the test.

I just downloaded the app. You can report it on there even if shop bought verylongtime.

Says I should stay home for 3 days not 5 like school told me but I'll do what school have told me to do.

dementedpixie · 13/03/2023 12:51

I think you can only report the ones the nhs sent in the past. Do the shop bought ones have a qr code on them?

NHS covid app

I tried on the website but it didn't work. Downloaded app and it gives you the option.

I don’t know anyone that is still testing tbh.

My place of work no longer has any guidelines about working from home or the office if you know you have it. I guess it’s up to the individual.

It's 5 days from the first day of symptoms usually. Did you put in different date for test and start of symptoms?

I hadn't used the nhs covid app, just the normal nhs reporting website and that says 5 days from onset of symptoms. I had an nhs test so can use it easily.

I've just downloaded the covid app - to see what it says after reading your message - and reported it and I put yesterday as my test date and my onset of symptoms day - that says 5 days.

For bought tests you have to use the NHS Covid 19 app, not the website.

No, same date as I told the school. It is right actually. I have 3 days to go as I started symtoms Saturday. So 3 days from today.

I don't usually now tbh but I was due to go to a different school today for training and get a lift with someone who has kidney problems. Also, I now work in a confined space with 3/4 different children all day, some of whom have health issues. I tested because these cold symptoms were a lot worse than usual.

I have had my vaccines but I have underlying health conditions. I simply don't want to he ill. The vaccine publicity has really annoyed me. It almost as if some people think the vaccine will stop you getting it. Wish Covid would get lost

There are millions of viruses etc that could make you ill.

is it covid specifically you’re worried about? Or are you the same with flu, chicken pox, coughs and colds etc?

were you the same about getting ill before covid and masks?

is it worth having to keep your distance from everyone and west a mask at all times?

genuinely interested btw. Interested in whether it’s “getting ill” from any cause, or covid specifically and why.

80sMum · 13/03/2023 14:43

My understanding is that the general public has not been under any obligation to test or isolate for almost a year. Nobody bothers with testing any more, unless they are required to as part of their job or asked to by a doctor or hospital. Or am I wrong?

There are loads of viruses circulating and covid is just one of them. Isn't it a much milder illness now than it was originally? We've all had it by now, probably multiple times.

Innocentbystanders · 13/03/2023 14:58

It’s not a mild illness for everyone. My friend is an nhs nurse in a major city hospital. They have had a large influx of covid admissions in the last 2 weeks. Some wards are closed to visitors and further admissions due to multiple outbreaks. Also due to the number of covid admissions they’ve had to set up 3 wards specifically for covid patients.

@80sMum that is also my understanding. We've all just had 5 weeks of rolling illness in our house and seeing this thread has just reminded me that it might have been covid we all had😅

Verylongtime · 12/03/2023 18:56

This is the second time I’ve had Covid, and this time is definitely worse.

Colleagues have found this latest infection to be pretty bad. It’s floored some of them, and most (NHS) have had it multiple times before already and are fully vaccinated.
