What's the current Covid advice?

Had booster late october and found out today I have Covid. Messaged work (school) and asked what they want me to do.
They've told me to stay off (fair enough) but when I asked for how long, she didn't reply.

So how long should I be isolating for now?

I think mine is worse too. The sore throat very painful thus time. I don't have a cough yet really. Very blocked up and groggy.

*There are millions of viruses etc that could make you ill.

is it covid specifically you’re worried about? Or are you the same with flu, chicken pox, coughs and colds etc?*

I babe had Chicken Pox and it's not common to have it several times, so that doesn't bother me.

A cough and a cold is annoying and it does make me quite ill at times. I obviously take time to rest and monitor. Fortunately a cold baby caused me any bug issues.

I have a flu vaccine annually and afaik I haven't had flu for a long time. If I have then it's been mild and I've not realised.

Chest infections can make me ill so I am careful to an extent and get antibiotics as soon as I can, speaking to my GP and stopping my strongest meds as soon as I know - continuing with it can make me more likely to get worse.

Covid I've had three times that I'm aware of and I am fully vaccinated (2 main plus 3 seasonal boosters) First time, pre vaccine I ended up in hospital and Ive had a a long term health condition ever since, requiring daily medication that I'll probably need for life. Last time I was able to access antivirals which stopped in its tracks. This time I'm on day 2/3 and still trifling and in bed most of the time, very tired and tight chest. It's not as bad as bout 1 though and I do feel like I've started to improve in the last few hours. So fingers crossed.

Do for me, whilst I do keep a closer eye out for other viruses I also know that covid had previously caused me more issues than coughs and colds so I'm more wary of it. I test ti check as it means stopping one of my meds as soon as I know for a couple of weeks, and I can access antivirals if necessary.

My understanding is that the general public has not been under any obligation to test or isolate for almost a year. Nobody bothers with testing any more, unless they are required to as part of their job or asked to by a doctor or hospital. Or am I wrong?

There are loads of viruses circulating and covid is just one of them. Isn't it a much milder illness now than it was originally? We've all had it by now, probably multiple times.

It's not a mild illness for everyone though and that is worth noting. People who do need to take extra precautions shouldn't be tested as strange for doing so.
I suspect Dh and Dd had it before I did last week (didn't test) and both were quite ill . Dd needed time of work and was in bed. Dh has not been great. Definitely worse than the other coughs and colds they've had this winter - and in-line with what I've currently got, which I have tested for.

I'm stuck in bed 3 days in and I never stay in bed with normal coughs and colds. This one seems worse than last time. It really takes it out of you.

Unless we are to Ill to work then we have to go to work with covid.

Odd. Seems the advice is different everywhere.

Is it an academy perhaps?
Goes against the LEA advice, which follows the general guidance of 5 days for adults and 3 days for children.

Keep calm and carry on I thought you as the policy? I would avoid work if you can but otherwise just lie low for 3-4 days
