Night Sweats?

Hi, for the past few months I’ve been waking in the night to find I’m soaked in sweat 😞 even on nights where it’s not even that warm in our room! I had a baby a year ago, went onto hormonal contraception in the summer, and never breastfed. I’m worried that this could be peri menopause, as I would like another baby some day, but I’m only in my early 30s so this would be unlikely right? Not unheard of I know. Are there any other possible reasons? Could it be the pill? Or just a postpartum thing?

It can be a symptom of something serious. Given your age that's one to take to the GP before deciding to just put up with it.

This has been happening to me for the last few months too!
I went to the GP with it a couple of weeks ago. She look blood for a range of things including diabetes, thyroid function & liver function to name a few.
all the results came back normal so she’s not concerned! She said it could be pre-menopause but that doesn’t often show up on blood results. I’m only 34! So who knows…..
for yours- I doubt it’s a postpartum thing if your baby is a year old. And I doubt it’s a hormonal thing if you started the contraception last summer.
I would go to your GP and get some bloods taken

I had night sweats too and if before 45 it's worth having tests to rule out stuff like Non-Hodgkins. So I had blood tests, lymph nodes checked and one scanned as it was raised and I also had a chest x-ray. All came back normal so they trialed me on HRT and it was a massive help. Perimenopause cannot be diagnosed via blood tests but the other stuff can do worth getting investigated.

If everything else ruled out ask about HRT as one in 100 women will have an earlier perimenopause and HRT can protect your bone and heart health.

Oh really! I’ve only had blood tests and they were all normal so GP said no further action required. Do you think I should push for more?

Me too now! I was happy my blood tests were normal and was leaving it at that

I have had this on and off for years, I go through stages where for a week I'll wake every night drenched then nothing for a while. Last time it was awful, I hardly got any sleep for a week. This was just before my period was due so I think it's hormones, I'm 34 and can remember this happening when I was 25. I probably should go to the Dr about it but figured if it's been happening years then it's probably not linked to anything serious. If this is new for you then I would get it checked out.

I've had insane night sweats since my early 20s. Tests left right and Chelsea, no cause. Now prescribed ditropan by GP, off licence but fucking amazing.

I can function and sleep on these meds. Life changing.

Can I ask what tests you’ve had?

This sounds really silly but do you wrap yourself in a heavy duvet and use polyester sheets by any chance? My husband would get night sweats really badly and I realised he balls himself up in the duvet whereas I kick it off when I feel hot.

I got a lower tog duvet and cotton covers and the night sweats are sooo much better!

Immychops · 12/03/2023 21:18

I'm 33 and I've had night sweats for years on and off. It seems to happen when I'm having erratic/hectic dreams (if that's a thing) which cause me to toss and turn.

I've never been that worried about it to be honest...maybe I should be .

This sort of question used to drive me insane. Similar to "have you thought of opening a window".

@Mumma2Ro i have no idea. GP did the normal stuff, then referred to a physician at the hospital, chest c ray, liver ultrasound, blood tests, monitored my temperature at night for about 6 weeks with more blood tests. Nothing of note.

Without wishing to worry you (apparently I’m the one in 10,000 people this happens to) I’m a slim, fit and healthy 47 year old, I had a couple of other minor symptoms but woke up a few times sweating profusely even though we keep our room cold. I had a heart attack! So get yourself thoroughly checked!

Mumma2Ro · 25/03/2023 03:22

OP how’s things now? Did you contact the GP?
