Nasal discharge - sinus infection?

Dibblydoodahdah · 11/03/2023 21:40

I have had sinus problems for years. Nine years ago it was so bad that I had my sinus’ drained and a deviated septum corrected to improve drainage with the aim of stopping the frequent infections. Since then it has been better but not cured. I still get infections from time to time, and I usually suffer from a post nasal drip when I get an infection.

Today I woke up feeling not myself; slightly nauseous and when I got out of bed my head started to hurt. I felt pressure in my head,
blew my nose and a load of yellow discharge came out. Since then my nose had not stopped dripping and at times it has poured out and left a puddle on the floor! I have never experienced this before. It’s very watery liquid, with a slight yellow tinge.

Anyone had this with a sinus infection?!

Could it be a cerebral spinal fluid leak?
Might worth ringing 111 for advice.

I would phone 111 and get checked out. That doesn't sound right. I suffer the same and never had that. Let us know how you get on xx

I've definitely had snot that's been so watery it's poured out!

Have you got a Nettie pot to do nasal rinses with salty water? Both me and DH have had numerous sinus infections in the last few years, we think from getting bugs our kids have brought back from nursery, and doing these rinses really help!

And when I had an epidural dural childbirth it went wrong and I needed a blood patch because I had a spinal fluid leak which meant I had a horrifically bad headache that I couldn't even sit up. I think you'd know if you had one of those but even if you do, they can be fixed op.

Yes, i've had this. I also have sinus issues and always have tissues everywhere I go because of the constant dripping. A few times I've had the bright yellow light that has come out without warning. I'm still alive so and the last time was probably last summer so I assume it's OK.

*liquid, not light

Dibblydoodahdah · 11/03/2023 22:37

@Hungrycaterpillarsmummy I tried it once but the water got stuck and I had excruciating ear ache. This was pre surgery and presumably linked to my deviated septum but I’m too scared to try it again.

Ah ok

Well I think you'll be ok it sounds like it's maybe a virus and you're body is just starting to produce yucky snot.
I get really drippy snot sometimes even if I just tip my head forward and it dribbles out. It's horrible but better than thick green stuff!

CSF leak can be tested. If you’ve got any of those pots with white lids the GP gives out you can collect some of the fluid in that. Or a sterile container of it’s completely clean. Keep it in the fridge until you’re seen and they can send it off to check. Take a video of the liquid coming out as well

catherinewales · 12/03/2023 20:24

@Dibblydoodahdah how are you? Did you phone 111?

Dibblydoodahdah · 12/03/2023 21:31

@catherinewales I am absolutely fine today thank you. I was planning to call 111 when I woke up this morning as I had my head over the sink yesterday evening with the discharge pouring out. But today there is no discharge whatsoever. It’s very very strange.

I get this!
Generally if I'm a little bit unwell but yeah if I tip my head at a certain angle it will drip or pour, happens for a couple of days then settles down again until the next time I'm ill!
Generally clear liquid with a yellow tint but sometimes it's more yellow
I've also had sinus and septum surgery around 10 years ago
