Lactose Intolerance after Rotavirus

Ds (8 months) had this last week and spent a couple of days hooked up to a drip in hospital. Since then he vomits whenever I offer him formula and I've only just discovered (thanks to mumsnet as opposed to the health professionals) that lactose intolerance after Rotavirus is fairly common. Can anyone with any experience of this tell me how long it's likely to last? Tia!

See GP and get a prescription for some lactose free formula (in California this is sold in the supermarket for after illness!)

Good luck in getting it (lactose free) on prescription. My ds was lactose intolerant after a bad stomach bug at about 6 months, and I was just told to use soya based formula (eg Infasoy) for a month. Blardy expensive. I was told at that point that it would only be supplied free if the intolerance was permenant.
The upside of it is that he was fine after the month, and we have had no problems. I guess it may also depend on individual GP surgeries - ie what they will prescribe for and what they won't.

Thanks ladies...will try gp first and then stomp off to Boots if/when I get refused!

My DD had it for about a week. No vomiting - just runny poos. We gave her rice and oat milk sometimes as a break from soya, and goat's and sheep's milk yoghurt, all of which worked for us.
