Skin Graft Surgury Monday - how much pain should I be in?

So as per my title, I had a skin graft operation on Monday to cover a cat bite on my shin!, I'm pretty much taking co-codamol as soon as the time is up & still struggling somewhat with the pain?
Is this normal? Am taking antibiotics too.

Just want to get comfy & have a decent sleep! ☹️

Sorry OP I have no idea but...I need to know more about the cat bite!

Why did it bite your shin?

Was it your cat?

How bad was the bite that it needs a skin graft?

<Side eyes fatty catty who is currently snoring on my bed> 👀

Hi Op, are you at home? Skin graft surgery is always v painful I'm afraid but yes you'll need stronger than over the counter co codamol. Co codamol 30 /500 taken regularly will be better. On prescription though. I hope you get comfy soon. X

And remember not to take more than 4 doses in 24 hrs of co codamol! If you take them through the night you can't just jeep taking them

Great thank you, I do have some plain codeine that the hospital gave me! Just good to know that the pain is normal!

Hiya OP I had a skin graft 5 weeks ago. Can you ask your drs (or GP) to prescribe naproxen? I had 2 naproxen a day (max dose) plus lanzoprazole (to protect stomach) and then 8 paracetamol on top.

How's your donor site? Mine was much worse than the graft site.

I'm back at work now but I felt pretty out of sorts particularly initially. I've never watched as much TV.

It does start to feel easier after a few days & when the dressing came off my donor site (12 days) it felt amazing especially as it was then easier to have a shower.

I have a "limbo boot" (my graft is on my foot) but I also bought a full length one so I could have a shower whilst my donor site still had to be kept dry. It was awkward but mostly because I was mainly standing on one leg.

I wouldn't have accepted co-codamol as it can cause really bad constipation so beware & ask for other medicine if you need it be hurt it gets bad.

It will get better soon xxx

Where's my mojo** my cat, normally the gentlest cat in the world, I trapped her tail in the toilet seat in the middle of the night,.
Took me a second to realise what had happened & in that second she had taken a huge bite from my shin, the bathroom was a bloodbath!

At the time I was more worried that it had come from her tail but needless to say not a mark on her tail & me with the skin graft! 🙁

Lizzyb thank you, I think I will get in touch with GP thank you!

My donor site is sore but not too bad, it's the graft site that is causing me the pain and yes to the constipation which isn't helping my mood!

You may find you can aid the constipation with that's like fibogel or prune juice etc - obviously you'd need to try by trial and error, and may well still be worth consulting the GP, but don't assume the constipation can't be improved.

I had a large graft on my calf and donor site was out side of my thigh . People say the donor site is very painful but to be honest I just found it stung abit when I first moved and the seaweed dressing moved. That's what they used but this was in 2011 so I'm not sure if they still use that.

The site of the graft was sore , but I wouldn't say much more painful than when I have had other operations etc.

QueueEtwo · 08/03/2023 08:03

Ricco I don't have other operations to compare it too. I've been lucky!

I just wasn't expecting this level of pain! 🙁

Went back today & apparently I have 45% Fail,

They said not to worry it would still heal!

Just need to carry on keeping it elevated!

Feeling quite despondent! 😕

Does anyone know if this is normal?
