Bladder problems.

I have had ongoing bladder problems for a while.. Was put on medication which now appears to have stopped working.
I don't drink much but need to go to the loo up to six times during the afternoon. I work early in the day so try to rest in the afternoon... This morning I had a mug of tea at 6am. A small bottle of apple juice at 9am. A mug of tea at 11am and a glass of squash with lunch at 12.30pm.
Its now 3.15pm and I've been to the loo for wees four times this afternoon. We don't have a downstairs loo so I have to keep going up and downstairs.
Last time I had bloods and urine test come back clear and ultrasound was fine.
I've had a clear urine test and awaiting blood results this time. Will chase ultrasound up tomorrow. Its doesn't affect me in the morning or the evening as much as the afternoon... I'm 53. Anyone else experienced similar?

Yup.
I drink less than you do..and need to wee easily as many times if not more. I can't even add up how many times a day I need to go, and on work days I literally get a weak cup of coffee in the morning (half a spoon of nescafe) maybe 3-400ml total all day and another cup of weak coffee when I get home... and I need to go multiple times! I appear to put out much more than I take in and even if I have been 15 mins earlier I can need to go again and it's a proper wee, not a little dribble. I'm 55 and it is so frustrating, as I'm not unwell in any way.
I don't have urge incontinence, I just seem to make a lot of urine!

I had tests years ago but no cause was found, but I'm wondering whether to go back to the docs and ask for meds to try as I have a dog these days and spend half my rural walks looking for a secluded bush, so you have my sympathy!

watching with interest!

Moredarkchocolateplease · 05/03/2023 20:49

I had this, but also a cystocele.

Going on HRT and using Ovestin topical oestrogen has made a massive difference. I don't even have to go in the night every night anymore.

I'd wee maybe three times before a dog walk and then have to stop for a wee behind a tree too. (rural).

I've got so so much better with the hormones.

I was also told caffeine makes it worse, I drink decaf but it still contains a small amount of caffeine.

Elderflower14 · 05/03/2023 21:01

Thankyou for your replies. I normally drink decaff tea and coffee.. I did have an ordinary tea after church this morning... My Mum has had bladder cancer which makes me anxious...
When I saw the nurse I told her my urine was green... "Why is it green?" says the nurse... I replied that that's why I was asking her!!

Have you considered HRT? Even the ovestin which my uro-gynae recommended made a difference ( I started that before the proper HRT)

Elderflower14 · 05/03/2023 21:15

I might suggest it when I make an appointment.... Its making me so miserable. I have a job where I have to have someone come and cover me everytime I need the loo. I always go before I start and then if I've had a drink mid morning I have to dash in halfway through and have another wee... Thankfully my colleagues are aware and never grumble..

Possible VA, due to lack of oestrogen to the bladder causing thin tissue?
Maybe ask for vagifem pessaries and Ovestin cream. Both are localised oestrogen products which will help plump up those areas.

LethargeMarg · 06/03/2023 20:58

To build bladder capacity you should have a good fluid intake- your bladder is a muscle and the less you drink the less it can hold. Try and drink 1.5-2 litres of light coloured fluids a day and try to space loo trips to every three hours . Build ip to this gradually. Avoid blackcurrant and cut down on caffeine . Constipation reduces bladder capacity as well

Bladder train. Don't go to the toilet "just in case" never push wee out it should be free flowing. When you feel the need to go. Stand up and down on your heels. Try to extend the time you can hold it

HowardKirksConscience · 07/03/2023 14:14

I’m not convinced by bladder training. I can hold it for ages. However, I spend the whole time feeling uncomfortable.

Elderflower14 · 07/03/2023 19:38

My blood tests came back normal... I am going to ring up next week and make an appointment with either a nurse (hopefully not the one I had last time!!) or the paramedic at the surgery.. I am on Tolterodine at the moment... I see there are similar meds so might suggest that...
I can categorically tell you I cannot leave it three hours between wees!

Have the same. I can't drink liquids after 5pm or I'm up through the night with it.

cestlavielife · 07/03/2023 22:55
