Burning sensation in shin

pelagra · 02/03/2023 19:22

I have experienced a burning feeling in my lower leg for about a month.

Usually I prefer to ignore things for some time, to give them a chance to clear up. I'm pretty sure this is just nerve pain, not something real, and I can live with it apart from the sleep disturbance it causes.
I have a (like gold-dust) GP appointment tomorrow, to discuss HRT. Would it be reasonable to mention the leg and ask if it is something I should try to make another appointment for, or shall I just keep to the issue in hand?

@pelagra I found your thread after searching as I have very similar symptoms. I wonder if yours has resolved now or if you saw the GP about it?

pelagra · 27/04/2023 10:42

I didn't pursue it with the GP, and it has become intermittent. I'm still ignoring it.

Hi, I am also suffering with this. Did you manage to get an answer? I am getting quite screwed up about it.

pelagra · 15/09/2023 20:27

No, never got any answer, but it went away after about 12 weeks.

I am a previous respondee on this thread. In my case I saw a physio who said it was coming from my back. I didn't really believe her but I ended up having a scan of my lumbar spine that showed a slightly bulging disc.

Cherrylily7 · 15/09/2023 20:39

I get this. It is part of the nerve pain from my spine where I have bone on bone arthritis and a large cyst
Nerve pain is worst at night and wakes me up. So bad I sit here breathing like a woman in labour to cope with it
Oromorph doesn't touch it

I too similarly experience pain in my right shin due to impact whilst playing football. It flared up a little but seemed to calm down and then out of nowhere it started to swell my leg up. It was deemed as a haematoma. I was offered surgery to remove it by a hospital doctor but would've required going under or to let it calm down & heal as it was starting to calm down.

I still to this day, 4/5 years down feel a sharp pain in the area at times and is heightened if I crouch down bending my legs (putting more strain on my lower leg). Also if I take a knock on it, it suddenly becomes very painful quite quickly. I had an ultra sound scan on it about a year ago but didn't show up any irregularities on it.

I regret not getting it removed now, but there was a slight risk attached to having the procedure done and would have cost me a couple of days in hospital.
