Uktrasound for mirena location

Hi I had an ultrasound to check my morena coil was correctly in place. She did the scan abdominal and vaginally and said it looked in place. The scan itself took ages is this normal she also noted to the other person in the room she had collected 27 images. Does this seem like a lot. She said to ring my gp in a week for the report. is this all normal?

I had the same thing. Whatever the reason for the scan, the sonographer will follow a set protocol for everyone. With mine she located the coil, but also had to check the uterus, cervix, both ovaries and fallopian tubes and bladder. So they have to check and make a record of the whole area.

Hope that helps. It's worth following up with the GP anyway, although if there was anything abnormal I'm sure they'd be contacting you.

Thats brill thanks. I've had pelvic ultrasounds before but they obviously been more for investigative purposes. I think I just expected a quick check it was in place and then send me on my way but thats reassuring thanks.

I had this a few weeks ago too - I actually only expected an external scan because they couldn’t find it with the internal one, hence the referral. In my case they couldn’t see it with the abdominal scan this time (I hadn’t drunk enough) and she did the vaginal scan which I was unprepared for with hairy legs and jeans on! I got a letter from the gynae doctor a few days later saying all was fine but I did have some small fibroids. The scan lady said at the appointment that my kidneys and bladder looked all good but there was nothing in the letter about that,
