Hi all

Been having issues with my right tonsil for a while now - it traps 'debris' and triggers my gag reflex like mad. Plus it's scratchy and horrible.

ANYWAY...I've spent a lot of time over the last few danys starig at my tonsils in the mirror and I've noticed they are completely different shapes and sizes. A quick Google only tells me I've got tonsil cancer which isn't ideal but trying not to jump to conclusions.

The right tonsil (left looking at the picture) is the problem tonsil - it seems flatter and less pronounced than the left and just entirely a different shape/size

I did have tonsillitis a lot as a child but have never noticed this before. Any ideas before i bother my GP?

It’s quite normal to have one larger than the other, especially if you have had bouts of tonsillitis in the past so try not to worry.

Tonsillar asymmetry: Occasionally one tonsil can be bigger than the other. In the vast majority of cases, this is due to previous infection, or slight differences in the anatomy of the tonsil bed on each side. Tumours or cancers of the tonsil are very rare

Nah you’re fine honestly. They look basically the same. One of mine is bigger and I have many of these photos 😂 GP said it was nothing to worry about. Tonsil cancer doesn’t look like this.

I have the same. One side much bigger that the other and stuff gets trapped all the time which drives me mad. I got referred to ENT a while ago but they refused to take them out because they are 'healthy'. If I didn't forage with a cotton bud regularly, I would have recurring tonsillitis.

I have similar too. @Pommbear did you see your gp in the end?
