Imodium with gastro

Hi,

I’m assuming I have gastroenteritis because I’ve been feeling absolutely awful since yesterday morning and spent the entire night with it coming out of both ends. Haven’t been sick since this morning but diahorrea continued all day.

I took some Imodium about 10am and it didn’t do anything initially but now I can’t actually go even when my tummy is making noises and cramping under my diaphragm. I saw on nhsinform that Imodium is fine and I took it bc I was worried about dehydration and also frankly done.

I’m not back at work until at least Thursday anyway (phoned my boss) but I don’t want to do damage, or for it to prolong the symptoms - or make them worse once it’s worn off… Also the other members of my household will probably kill me if I’m up flushing the loo every ten minutes again tonight and frankly at that point I would welcome death anyway.

Any advice/experience?

Did you follow the instructions to take 2 tablets and then take another one after every bowel movement up to 6 tablets a day?

Springintoabetterlife · 28/02/2023 16:42

Sorry, do you mean your now constipated?

cryinginhmart · 28/02/2023 16:51

I only took 2 and then no others. I don’t know if I’m constipated or if there is literally now nothing else to come out - I ate 3/4 of a banana over about 3 hours earlier and then 2 rice cakes but since I last went to the toilet I’ve only got one rice cake inside me.

So you took Imodium and now you've stopped going to the toilet? That's the point of them to stop it!

No obviously I know that! I’m happy about it currently but what I’m saying is I’m concerned it’s going to just be worse when it wears off. I guess I can just take some more - I’ve just seen things online about how it can prolong symptoms because you’re temporarily stopping it when it needs to come out. I don’t mean to sound stupid, it probably doesn’t work like that but I haven’t slept since Sunday night so I’m not totally with it!
