Change in periods - flooding/clots

Hi, I am 40 years old and my periods are starting to change. I’ve always had normal flow and been regular as clockwork.
Early last year, I flooded with large clots 2 consecutive months and then went back to normal. Jan & Feb this year same has happened again.
Day 1 and 2 are as normal but day 3 I flood lots with clots then just bits of brown discharge for remaining days. It’s like it all comes out in one go on day 3.
Ive had a smear but still waiting on results and dr has put me on 2 week pathway and I have a scan planned in for tomorrow.
I’ve had blood tests and come back as anaemic so I’m now on iron tablets.
has anyone else had similar situation? What was the outcome?
I’m worried to death for scan tomorrow. 😳

Just wanted to come on and update as I’ve read through many threads but then the person hasn’t come back with an update!
Had my scan this morning and everything was clear! 😀 She is putting it down to my age and I will have a follow up with my gp to discuss ways of managing it.

Glad to hear your scan was clear @Comeonsummmer ! Peri is the most likely cause and can start up to 10 years before actual meno.

I’ve been in peri since about 35 due to premature ovarian failure and my periods are exactly like yours. Like clock work but super clotty on certain days.

HRT did help with it at first bit it’s regressed again so tweaking my dose!
