I don't think you're dying but any mole that changes needs checking out by a doctor. So yes, you need to go. Monday morning, first thing, make an appointment.

I should think it's probably a skin tag - I have lots, in all the various stages you describe.

Wouldn't hurt to get it checked though - I usually get my doctor to have a quick look whenever I'm there - he suggested I take some pictures as a record, so I now have a folder on my laptop called 'skin...'

misdee · 09/02/2008 19:43

yes you need to see a docotor about it.

probably nothing through.

Tortington · 09/02/2008 19:43

really?

shit

OP posts:
misdee · 09/02/2008 19:45

it does sound more liek a tag than a mole.

marina · 09/02/2008 19:45

Agree you should get it checked to be on the safe side but unless you are a rampant individualist on the beach your oxsters are not normally a high risk location for melanoma custy.
Bet it is a skin tag, ouchies.
Hope you feel better soon - and make that appt.

Littlefish · 09/02/2008 19:46

Was it really a mole, or was it a skin tag?

Was it the same colour as the rest of your skin before it swelled, went reddy brown and then black, or was it a different colour to start with?

Tortington · 09/02/2008 19:50

well it was a mole on a mole

when i was 12 i shaved my armpits for the first time with a friends sisters electric shaver and it shaved of my mole - which bled for days. then gradually i had a mole on a mole cos anothe mole grew on the existing stump of previous mole which in itself was quite large

i may have nicked it again - cant be sure - i idnt notice anything - so i have a twin mole and the second mole had withered an died but i still have the stump

TMI?

OP posts:
marina · 09/02/2008 19:57

Just get it checked already

Tortington · 09/02/2008 20:00

You do need to get it checked, but my friend had a large mole on her neck that went weird and crusty and then dropped off - she was terrified, but it was tested and it was fine. Just get it checked to be sure.

Tortington · 09/02/2008 20:25

ok ta xx

I had a wierd mole about 20 years ago, it grew out of a chickenpox scar and eventually became like a little berry on a stalk (sorry if TMI). It was on my sholderblad and used to catch on bra straps - I finally got sick of it and went to the doctor who arranged for it to be removed. It wasn't anything sinister - quite a lot of funny little skin growths are not sinister, just annoying, but at the same time you should go to your GP - for one thing, you can get it quickly and easily removed.

Tortington · 09/02/2008 20:40

does it hurt

OP posts:
muppetgirl · 09/02/2008 20:44

I have lots of little moles on my back but one that has swollen, become red and itchy and now is slightly hard. IT came off fully in the past as it's been itchy before. The dr was a little suprprised I had had it checked out before. Dr she said it needs to come off so are having that and another one that flaps -skin tag?

She also said that the tratment of it if it were to be something sinister would be to remove it so by having it removed it will have been treated itswim.

muppetgirl · 09/02/2008 20:45

that would be 'treatment' of course

Tortington · 09/02/2008 20:46

right - well tell me if it hurts ! am such a girl

itsahardknocklife · 09/02/2008 20:59

I had a skin tag on my armpit. It was there for donkeys years but suddenly got a bit, sort of longer. It annoyed me and I was worried that I would shave it off.
So I did the very un-sensible thing and sort of pinched it off between my nails. It was quite hard to do and it did hurt a bit, and it bled a tiny bit, but it hasn't come back.

whomovedmychocolate · 09/02/2008 21:03

Custardo - I've had four suspicious moles removed - two turned out to be nasty. I had one which was a mole on a mole as you have. It did fall off and afterwards it was really itchy so I went and got it checked out. Good job I did because it was removed the next day and analysed and found to be a melanoma.

Now I have a very cool scar in the centre of my back which I used to tell my colleagues was to save them having to stab me in the back because some bugger had beaten them to it!

In other words, get thee to a doctor. It's probably nothing but if it is irritating you, better to have it frozen or cut off.

The treatment doesn't hurt. They inject local anaesthetic to excise it. It's itchy afterwards with the stitches though. If you have it frozen it is actually quite sore when the feeling comes back. The scalpel is more effective and quicker if you can bear it.

whomovedmychocolate · 09/02/2008 21:04

But I'm sure you've checked already it's not this right?

itsahardknocklife · 09/02/2008 21:08

I had am mole frozen off about 10 years ago. I had several sessions but the bugger kept coming back. Now it is still there, same size and shape, but skin coloured.

itsahardknocklife · 09/02/2008 21:08

am mole? I mean a mole.

kittywise · 09/02/2008 21:09

is that a spider ?

ButterflyBessie · 09/02/2008 21:13

if it is one of these then you are in real trouble
