PPIs and wind

I’ve been on PPI on and off since august. I was on omeprazole and now on lansoprazole - I’ve got a med review next week before anyone says ‘see your GP’. Apart from the reflux symptoms not fully abating I seem to have really bad wind - some days I’m farting so much it’s grim - and if I’m out and can’t fart then it builds up into one massive one when I get to a loo and let a wet one rip.
I looked on the leaflet and wind is def a side effect. Poos are generally normal and I’m on a low acid diet - I try not to have excessive fibre which is hard when the diet recommends it. Wind is def worse in the evenings once I’ve eaten all the day’s food!!
Not quite sure where to go from here - try another ppi, come off ppi and stick to the diet, ask for more testing (had camera both ends and mri as they suspected ibd due to other symptoms and high calprotectin which came down to normal levels, but nothing found of note). It’s extremely frustrating.
I want to speak to the GP and get what I want out of the appt, not be fobbed off.

No advice but I've been on Lansoprazole for 18 months and have had awful wind, bloating and constipation since.

its so annoying. I’m glad I don’t have to go out today. Can they change you to a different ppi?

I'm not too sure. I was on Omeprazole but that didn't work for me hence why I was switched to Lansoprazole. That combined with Gaviscon Advance keeps my symptoms manageable most of the time but like you the side effects are annoying.

I use gaviscon advance too - my symptoms aren’t controlled enough though - it’s all such a pain. If they were I’d tolerate the side effects more!

Have you been on the Lansoprazole since August? What dose do you take? They took quite a while before I found them working, I tried recently to drop to 15mg and after about two weeks I had a horrible flare up so went back to 30mg.

JustDanceAddict · 24/02/2023 19:24

@UncomfortableSilence - I was on omeprazole at first, came off and symptoms returned, went up to 40mg, came off as instructed for endoscopy, went back in after a couple of weeks but didn’t find much difference so FP switched to lansaprazole - been on 15mg for 6 weeks now. How long did they take to start working?!

Took about a month for me, you may need to up the dose. Ask your GP at your review.
