Breast Biopsy Results

Hi all

Hoping for some support really. I had my son 8 weeks ago, and about 5 weeks ago I noticed a lump on my breast, around the nipple. It's movable and I put it down to feeding. At my 6 week checkup though the GP took a look and referred me to the breast clinic. I went today and although they at first thought it was a cyst or lipoma, an ultrasound left them uncertain so a biopsy was performed. To allow me to continue breastfeeding without issue, they did a smaller biopsy than the normal core biopsy. Results should be available in a week.

Has anyone had a similar experience? I'm in pieces and just can't stop staring at my wee boy, hoping and praying all will be ok for his sake. The worry is really eating me up though. Grateful for any similar experiences. Also, are results ever early?

Thanks all xx

I have breast cancer and results are normally a week, its normally quite rigid on timetable and I doubt results will be earlier. But most biopsies are not cancer, I think its 1 in 4 in and often that 1 in 4 will have been told we are certain this is cancer. I was told they were absolutely certain mine was cancer. The fact that they are saying they are not sure means its very unlikely to be cancer but they want to be 100% certain. Bearing in mind you've just had a baby and are breastfeeding changes would be expected. I would be fairly confident you will get an all clear in a week.

In the unlikely event you don't it will have been caught very early and treatment could be minimal. So sorry you are going through this after having a little baby. Best way of coping during this period is pretend its not happening and distract yourself with anything you enjoy. Easier said that done though.

I had a biopsy and results were back by a week. All was fine. Good luck!

Ps: they told me in the clinic it was prob not cancer but had to be 100% sure.

Thanks both so much for your replies.

@Silkierabbit I'm so sorry about your diagnosis. I hope you're getting wonderful care - wishing you absolutely all the best.

The waiting just seems impossible at the moment. My wee boy was sick at birth (meningitis) and this seems yet another bump in the road for us. It's difficult to focus. I hate to wish these newborn weeks away, yet these results can't come quickly enough.

Thank you again xx
