Really awful nightmares all the time

Hello

Wonder if anyone could shine some light on this for me and why it's happening.

Most nights when I fall asleep, I keep having nightmares, but really awful ones like I've been in car crashes, my sister was dying, I've been dying, I've honestly woke up so many times crying from it in my sleep? I feel restless in the mornings after not sleeping and keep on having these nightmares.

It's so strange as in the day to day life I'm absolutely fine? No problems.

It's really bothering me, to why I keep having these?

Thanks
Emma

Have you tracked them to your menstrual cycle? Theres a massive link between hormones and nightmares.

@Redannie118 They seem to come at all different times! But talking about hormones - I am actually 12 weeks pregnant so could be that maybe?!
They are horrible, just want them to stop!

Ahhhh if you are pregnant i would like to bet my bottom dollar thats what it is !!! Have you tried listening to white noise as you fall asleep? Can help sleep problems.
On a more serious note, are there any unresolved issues from childhood? They can raise their head during pregnancy. Is this your first? Its very, very natural to worry about not being there for your baby and your dreams of dying can just be your bodies way of unpicking that.

I had awful nightmares at the beginning of my pregnancy so it must be normal. They were so vivid and I felt sick the whole day after them. After the 4th or 5th month they calmed down.

@Redannie118 @LizzieB44 yes so strange! I have had things happen over the years like more bad relationships etc! Comes to think of it - I had awful nightmares beofre being pregnant so god knows! Hope they stop though xxx
