Dreadful periods...not just me?

Ever since having a c section over 7 years ago my periods have been 15 days long (brown to start) and then eventually proper blood flow. I am so heavy I have to change pads every 20 minutes! I've gone through my clothes at work and can't do anything that involves too much movement. I get period pains but I can handle those. A 15 day show is a lot and obviously affects my sex life, as well as my social life because I avoid going out when heavy bleeding. I also suffer with night sweats regularly but blood tests have shown my hormone levels are fine. I've also had a scan that is apparently fine, so why am I bleeding so much and why am I sweating? Something is amiss. I've tried the anti inflam diet and it doesn't work, it doesn't change anything. My doctor just gave me the pill and whilst it did alleviate my symptoms of heavy bleeding I just don't want to have to take it for that. I know other girls suffer too and makes me wonder if it's a new thing or a more talked about thing because I can't begin to think how women back in the day dealt with it! Does anyone else have issues, how do you control it? Thanks.
