Itchy legs at night

Has anyone got any idea what could be causing extremely itchy legs at night - so bad that sleep is impossible sometimes. A blood test showed no sign of diabetes and no further help from the doctor.

any recommendations to stop the itch would be gratefully received.

For an itch I’d use an antihistamine or Eurax cream.
if it’s restless legs I’d try tonic water, magnesium, and keeping your legs cool/cold.

Is it your calves? I have exactly the same thing!

Hi, I get this and after some monitoring of nights when it happened I've concluded its hormonal for me. My legs become so itch mid-cycle that I would scratch them until huge bruises would appear.

Google has loads of suggestions. What have you ruled out so far?

I get itchy and restless legs. The itching for me is caused by food intolerances. I avoid eggs now and it seems to help. Re restless legs, I went on a low dose of ropinirole which is meant for Parkinson's but treats rls in low doses. I had to stop taking it when I was pregnant and avoided caffeine. It magically stopped when I reduced my caffeine intake.

My dm had this and it turned out she was very low in b12.

Antihistamine in the evening might help. If it carries on go back to GP and ask for referral to dermatology.

I've just been told my folates are extremely low so that's probably why I get this then! Started on folic acid so hopefully this will stop.

I have itchy everything at the moment and I'm putting it down to heating and aircon at work causing a dry atmosphere and dry skin.

Oblomov23 · 18/02/2023 11:29

Interesting, I've been very itchy for a long time now.

I recently had terrible itching caused by slight jaundice from gallstones.
Is there any chance of a liver function blood test?
I actually had to take sleeping tablets to help me overcome it until the underlying issue was solved, unfortunately nothing else worked.
