He thinks it may be a spider bite or he’s scratched it somehow. His leg is visibly swollen although not hot and he doesn’t have a temperature. He’s just shown it to me and I’ve said he needs to speak to doctor tomorrow. He said it aches a bit and is itchy….. 😬

I'm not medically trained but I think from the picture that looks OK to treat at home. Cold compress..ibuprofen for pain and anti histamine for itching is what I would do.

If it gets worse you can reassess.

LemonSwan · 15/02/2023 22:19

Ouch yes could be a spider. Little buggers. Draw a circle round the red in ballpoint pen then see if it’s shrinking or spreading.

HyacinthineMacaw · 15/02/2023 22:22

DH is into week 6 of trying to heal a massive infected hole in his leg from a spider bite, after two rounds of heavy duty antibiotics. I’d see if someone can have a look at it tomorrow - maybe minor injuries. Spider bites all seem to get infected, little buggers. Draw round the red bit with a biro, and you’ll soon see if it’s spreading.

HcP here, I wouldn't panic, get him to go to the pharmacy tomorrow and they'll be able to advice if they can sell something over the counter or whether it warrants further investigation ar the surgery.

Are Lemon Swans and Hyacinthine Macaws the same, do you think? Hello, other me!

Def draw around the red bit and keep an eye on it. He should absolutely get it looked at by someone medical tomorrow and if the redness starts to extend out, go sooner. Do you think there is extended pale red further out than the bright red? Its difficult to see under the leg hair 🤣

justasking111 · 15/02/2023 22:26

Spider bite is painful, draw around it, see if it spreads, contact surgery if it's worse in the morning. They'll treat it for him

Luredbyapomegranate · 15/02/2023 22:27

It seems more like a bite than cellulitis, but he should get an opinion on that. If you have a responsive GP surgery you should be able to send in the photo and have a nurse call back if necessary. Tell them that it’s swollen but not hot and all the rest.

FannyFifer · 15/02/2023 22:30

This is a job for the pharmacist. Just keep an eye for spreading redness or spiking a temp in the meantime.

Disgayahah · 15/02/2023 22:31

Thank you, getting a biro now! There’s no clear cut or graze really, his calf is swollen though. Bit scary!

No, just the blotch. All looks quite shiny as swollen 🫣🤣

Take antihistamines (hayfever tablets) today and tomorrow until you get pharmacy advice

Em308 · 15/02/2023 22:40

Not been mentioned yet so I’d recommend a good clean with antiseptic / disinfectant and apply antiseptic ointment.

hellsbells99 · 15/02/2023 22:56

Phone GP in the morning as he will probably need antibiotics

howmanybicycles · 15/02/2023 23:00

All bug bites do that to me and DS. Not to DH usually though spider bite did. Put an ice cube on to bring down the itching a bit in the absence of anything else.

Blueberry40 · 15/02/2023 23:02

This looks exactly like my DH’s leg a few months ago- it was apparently a spider bite that had become cellulitis. He had to have a strong course of antibiotics and keep his leg raised for a week.

pawprintseverywhere · 15/02/2023 23:07

Looks like a insect bite about to turn to cellulitis. Draw a circle around the redness and if spreading get him seen. Will need antibiotics as they can turn quite nasty.

Tireddoggymum · 15/02/2023 23:12

Use felt tip to draw around the inflammation. As long as husband doesn’t feel unwell and temp ok I would just go to chemist tomorrow and get antiseptic cream .

Nat6999 · 15/02/2023 23:19

I had a bite like that, had been helping my then husband to be sort out stuff to move in to our house that was stored in the room his mum put her indoor cats at night. Doctor told me it was a bite from a flea that had got infected. It took ages & a course of antibiotics to clear it up.
