Hello!
just looking for a handhold really.
l am 63 and 7 years ago l had to have a abdomen CT scan and then 5 years ago a virtual CT colonography (alternative to Colonography) because of lots of tummy/bowel probs, l have now 5 years later got to have another virtual colonograhy as l have blood in my stool and my bowel is an odd shape so l can't have a colonoscopy.
I feel terrified because of the radiation risk because this will be my 3rd big scan and l am more worried about that than the possibility of bowel cancer!!!
l asked at the hospital but they were very dismissive and my GP never got back to me.
Has anyone else had lots of scans and are perfectly ok please? Sorry to sound so anxious! Xx

every 5 years is very infrequent. I’ve had 14 scans in just over a year. Of these slightly more have been PET-CT rather than CT, PET scans having much higher radiation than standard CTs. I’ve no choice as it’s all part of my cancer treatment but really the risk is small. The risk of allowing you to develop cancer is much greater.

I can’t say I’m OK, but it’s not the scans that have caused issues!

Really really low doses of radiation in CT scans.

I would speak to your GP about your health anxiety

I'm a lot younger than you and had more scans. The risks are extremely low, honestly try not to worry.
