Endometrial Ablation Rxperience?

njshep · 12/02/2023 11:02

9 days ago I had an endometrial

ablation (Novasure) plus a fibroid removed. The first few days I had minimal
spotting as expected. A few after that abs about 2 days before my period was to arrive I started getting more normal period flow, although significantly less than normal (which was insane). I am guessing I just got my period early now as i has been consistent for four days.
I was hoping that I would be one of the lucky ones who never got a period again.
trying to figure out how you can still bleed so soon after an ablation. I understand that the lining could eventually grow back over time but I was not expecting this.
Can anyone share their experiences with this ?

I had novasure 8 years ago and I had a kind of weeping discharge afterwards, like from a scab (sorry) I had a tiny bit of very very pale pink spotting around the time my period would be due for a couple of years then nothing. My SIL had it and carried on having normal periods.

Interesting how different the outcomes can be.
thanks!

I think it's perhaps a bit too soon to be sure of the outcome. I had an ablation about 15 years ago and, after discharge for about four weeks, had what seemed to be a normal period. That was it then though - there's been nothing since!!

Yesthatismychildsigh · 12/02/2023 16:57

Same as you - fibroid and I had ridiculously heavy periods. I had spotting for a few months around period time then just general period symptoms for a while (grumpy, clumsy etc) then nothing. It was the best think ever.

SpotOnMyBot · 13/02/2023 06:40

Mine was life changing too. My periods didn't stop but I can get away with wearing a panty liner so a v small amount of blood every month. This from horrendous flooding/leaking and fainting every month. I just regret not having it sooner! It did take a few months to settle into that pattern though

njshep · 13/02/2023 13:26

Did any of you find your periods just tapered off over time after the procedure it was it immediate?
Worrying mine has failed. Day 11 and still some bleeding…

I had an ablation 11 years ago and had a little bit of spotting for a couple of days afterwards but that was it. My periods stopped completely.

SpotOnMyBot · 13/02/2023 21:01

Mine wasn't immediate and took a few months to settle and I still get periods just not as bad as before

HyacinthineMacaw · 13/02/2023 21:06

I had mine six years ago, for very heavy bleeding (so heavy even my gynae didn’t think they could be so heavy until she witnessed me ‘in action’). I had some bleeding and discharge for about a week afterwards, I think, and I’ve had a period every month at the right time since then. But they are ‘normal’ now, as in I can actually leave the house, go to work, and sleep all night - none of which I could do before. I never anticipated them going away completely if I’m honest, because my lining growth each month was so excessive, but I am so happy I’ve got my life back. Can’t wait till they stop at menopause though!

njshep · 13/02/2023 23:26

Good to know that maybe it takes a bit of time. I’m sitting here thinking, how can my period be happening (albeit way lighter), if I had my endometrial lining torched 10 days ago??!! I get that it can grow back over time, but this is a bit baffling.

I had an ablation just over 4 weeks ago & am still bleeding too, some days heavier than others, some not at all. Though so much less than previously which had just been horrendous! Hoping everything settles soon for us both.

njshep · 14/02/2023 12:11

Thank you twitchwitch, you too!

I had mine 6yrs ago and after the initial healing period I haven't had any bleeding since! It's been life changing for me, such a relief.

twitchwitch · 15/02/2023 18:58

How long did you take to settle down @ArabellaRockerfella

ArabellaRockerfella · 15/02/2023 18:59

I'm not 100% sure but I think 3/4 weeks

Lisaav · 17/07/2023 16:46

I know it's an older thread but did your bleeding calm down? I'm almost 4 weeks post op and I'm still bleeding and cramping. Over it! Looking for hope.

njshep · 17/07/2023 19:53

It was about 3 weeks or so. I had the ablation along with a myomectomy (fibroid removal) and while the bleeding has reduced its nowhere as reduced as I thought it would be. It’s been almost 6 months. First three months were good and then bleeding started increasing again, clots, flooding, etc. so disappointed.
hopefully you have a better outcome.

Sorry to jump on here. Can I ask what the recovery time is for this surgery please? I'm looking into having it done as my periods are awful. I've been waiting over a year for a gynaecologist apt and finally have a phonecall in August. I'm done having children but my periods are so bad I'm flooding maternity pads each month and in so much pain like labour. I'm desperate to get my life back and not be stuck with this each month for years to come.

Lisaav · 17/07/2023 22:07

@njshep I'm sorry you didn't have a better experience. I hope you can get some answers. Thanks for the reply!

njshep · 17/07/2023 22:24

The recovery was nothing! It was a painless and short procedure and was at work the day after.

OP posts:
Lisaav · 17/07/2023 23:46

I know 6 people that had the procedure and all had easy recovery. All but one had no periods after. It's definitely worth a try (for anyone deemed a good candidate), but I was wishing for a quicker recovery. Hope everyone here can find relief.
