Constipation. In bathroom in tears need desperate help

constipatedcrying · 11/02/2023 15:49

I'm week post partum and I'm so so constipated. Tmi but I've put a finger up and can feel a huge rock hard poo it's right there but won't come out. I've tried breaking it up or fishing it out and I can't it's too solid. I'm in tears. I've done a glycerol suppository and it made for a few wet farts but the mass is still there and will not come out. I've got family here for the night and I've been upstairs for over an hour trying to deal with this and I'm just in tears and don't know what to do I feel so desperate. I've even tried squatting in the shower over a nappy to see if it would come out easier but no. I'm sitting with my knees on a stool, how the hell do I get this poo out Sad

2 suppositories, as far up as you can get them and keep them in as long as you can.

Also, nothing wrong with breaking them as much as you can. Something benign to help with lubrication.

Warm bath? Hot coffee or other drink helps induce peristalsis. Something that takes a lot of chewing.

Movicol 3 x per day helps softening from the other end.

I understand your pain a frustration. x

Oh my love, it's horrific eh. Can u get a suppository up kinda to the side of it? Loads of Vaseline/ KY jelly, warm bath.
A microlax enema would def work can u phone 111 & see if yet can send a prescription to a pharmacy?

thinkfast · 11/02/2023 15:56

Can you try a warm bath and see if you can go in the bath?

Icecreamandapplepie · 11/02/2023 15:57

Dulcolax asap. You'll be hoing in 13 hours. Adds water and is really effective.

Icecreamandapplepie · 11/02/2023 15:57

Going in 12 hours

ouch321 · 11/02/2023 15:59

I don't know if birth related is a different kind but for normal constipation you really want to increase your water intake. Sip water every few mins throughout the day (replicate a drip) and eat fruit and veg that is high in fibre and water - apples and pears work well. Prune juice is a traditional drink that helps.

monkeysmum21 · 11/02/2023 15:59

Docusate sodium.

I assume this is because of the painkillers of childbirth. People should always have Docusate or similar while on painkillers.

good luck

paisley256 · 11/02/2023 16:01

When all else fails get an enema from the chemist. My little local chemist has Micralax and my partner has had to get these for me when things have been bad. Instant relief. This is 'the big guns' tho, you might be ok with glycerine suppositories like the PP mentioned.

I'm on alot of meds which makes constipated and the movicol drink is great so it doesn't happen to you again. Movicol might have changed its name to CosmoCol by the way as this is what i got last time I asked for some.

Good luck I'm sorry you are like this it's bloody awful xx

JazzyGeoff · 11/02/2023 16:01

How's the front porch?

I've seen tips to put fingers in the vagina and move the mass down that way, but one week post partum, that might not be an option.

Every sympathy though, with my third, I swear the first poo took more effort than the birth. I nearly wrapped it in a blanket and posed for a photo!

You can find it pills and enema. At this point have it as a enema. Works really fast.

Fancysauce · 11/02/2023 16:02

Drink as much water as you can now. Try and get as much vaseline or similar up there as you can to try and ease the passage so it can slide out. Sometimes getting up and walking around can help it to shift position.

paisley256 · 11/02/2023 16:05

Ps when I was post partum with my 1st I didn't go for 2 weeks after the stitches etc and ended up badly constipated. The nurse came out and gave me an enema and I lived in a hostel at the time so had to take my newborn into communal loo's, I think the poor mite was scarred for life with what ensued!

Hope you're ok xx

MaverickGooseGoose · 11/02/2023 16:06

Can you go up in your vag and try and break it up / push it down that way?

TheCatch · 11/02/2023 16:09

Try a 1 or 2 glasses of prune juice.

When I was in your condition it was Fybogel the doctor prescribed. You drink one sachet. Itakes 2-3 days to work though.

2bazookas · 11/02/2023 16:10

When I had the same problem after giving birth, I was recommended to drink a whole carton of pineapple juice.

Magic....

Mumof1andacat · 11/02/2023 16:11

Try using a small foot rest to have your feet on. Much better positioning for the bowel

StiggyZardust · 11/02/2023 16:15

If you are using suppositories, put them as high as you can. Then lie on a bed on your left side for as long as possible. They should do the trick.
Once this episode is sorted, lots of water and maybe some lactulose regularly for a while.

BCxx · 11/02/2023 16:21

Hope you’ve managed it by now! I was in the same boat around the same time after giving birth. It was as if I’d been so backed up what was there was too big to physically get out. It was horrific and I was in such a panic googling what to do. I just walked up and down my bathroom repeatedly, squatting etc and eventually it came out (and blocked the toilet) after a long while. I had to put it in a nappy bag and dispose of it in the nappy bin then slyly take the nappy bin outside to get rid of it without mentioning the trauma I had just been through to my husband! One of the lowest points of my life 🤣 I read Ellie Taylor’s book a while after this and she describes almost the exact same thing happening to her (and having to fish it out)! I felt nowhere near as mortified knowing she’d actually written it in a book 😂

Hope you’ve managed to get out of that situation! There’s nothing wrong with telling your guests you’re not feeling great and you’re going for a bath and a lie down without them knowing about your distress!

usernamenotaccepted · 11/02/2023 16:22

There are some good YouTube videos on abdominal massage for constipation OP. They include how to break up the mass without the need to do it internally. Obviously this won't be an option if you gad a c section. I've used this method on myself and it works although anything else you can do such as drink water etc will help things along as well.

BCxx · 11/02/2023 16:22

Weetabix is my lifesaver now, I’m pregnant again and having two in the morning and two at night. That with a glass of orange juice gets things going within about half an hour for me

Miserablehag · 11/02/2023 16:23

Milk of magnesium! Dont waste time on dulcolax, one dose of that made me go in half hour after days of agony

constipatedcrying · 11/02/2023 16:24

Got my third suppository in now going to try and leave it longer I'm just in so much pain Sad I have so many hemerroids from pregnancy too so it's just making it impossible. I feel a bit traumatised and it isn't even out yet I'm in a genuine panic about what to do. Local pharmacy shuts early on a Saturday so will be a trip to Tesco and see what they sell OTC if not. If I can't pass it is it extreme to phone 111? I don't think I can not get it out today it has to come out today Sad
