Blood tests in blood thinners

Random question, I have blood tests today for a diabetic check up... it's the 1st time since I've been on blood thinners that they've had to be done

Do they do anything differently?

No, nothing different done. You might have to press on the puncture sight for a bit longer that's all.

You will very likely to have a big bruise for a few days.

Yes, came on to say the same thing as the previous poster - I’m on blood thinners and you just keep the pressure on for a little longer, and try to tell them first why you are doing that and why you may not want a wee bandaid whacked on right away (I forget to tell them half the time!)

I always just say I'm in blood thinners before they start. Hold the cotton pad on for a few seconds longer - so basically while they are doing paperwork.

I find I bruise the same as I did before - I think it's very much down to skill if the phlebotomist and how many times they've had to have a go at finding a vein whether I bruise or not.

Ask for a smaller needle - a butterfly needle. It makes it less likely you’ll bleed as much. (I have blood clotting issues and blood tests are always difficult for me, sometimes I bleed for 4 hours afterwards, I always have mine taken at the hospital now).
