Kidney Infection - when does the urge and discomfort go?

I was diagnosed with a kidney infection and have 1.5 days left of a 7 day course of antibiotics.

The back pain went very quickly, initially the discomfort did too, but the latter then came back. For at least three days I've had the urge to pee and a general discomfort after I do go which tends to go on and on with no break. It isn't reducing in how uncomfortable it is, either.

I read something about it can take a while for your kidney to flush the bacteria out. Is this normal? I have drunk so much water today I feel bloated and sick but am still so uncomfortable all the time re urge to pee and so on.

I tried to call the GP today but they are shut. I will try again tomorrow probably but just wondering if anyone has experienced similar and can offer any reassurance? I am feeling very sorry for myself. Can't do usual activities still and over the counter pain meds are not helping in any way.

@EnglishRain

I appreciate this was a while ago but can you remember how long you took to feel better and if anything specific helped?

I have a kidney infection right now and I’m in agony.

I've had a uti for the past couple of weeks and still have lingering frequency and pain too. Seems there's a lot of us.

nothing now showing on my dipstick to indicate an infection.
