Swollen Red Eyelid

louise5754 · 08/02/2023 12:56

Hi. My bottom eye lid is sore. I wear contact lenses and I often forget to change them. I thought it may have something to do with that.

Yesterday I looked in the mirror and it's red and inflamed. Not really bad as it's not noticeable to anyone else.

I need to wear my contacts to see. I have my glasses on but they aren't very strong.

I thought it could be an ingrowning eyelash.

I've just googled and blocked Meibomian gland has come up which you need drops for. I'm hoping it's not that.

It's been 3 days now. I've put a cotton wool pad with cooled boiled salt water on it but it's still there.

Any advice?

Thanks

Go to Opticians/MIU

I would but I don't drive and can't afford the appointment. Obviously if it was infected / serious I would.

Well if you are still wearing contacts and not getting it looked at it very soon could become serious!

Hot as in as warm as you can tolerate not scalding hot. If it’s not better you could maybe try the gp

Can't you get some eye ointment from the chemist?

KnickerlessParsons · 08/02/2023 13:51

An old wives tale recommends rubbing with a wedding ring - 7 times to be precise.

@louise5754 , see that link posted above, and look for your nearest optician on the list. It won't cost you anything. Do not put your contact lens back in that eye

underneaththeash · 08/02/2023 15:58

Can you post a picture?

It's really important you take out your lenses now and NEVER reuse them if they're dailies, your eye infection risk is much higher when you wear contacts and significantly higher if you don't use them properly.

You need some up to date glasses too.

louise5754 · 08/02/2023 15:58

Thanks all. I'm desperate to put my contacts in so I can see but I won't. I have some drops but they for itchy eyes.

These glasses are a recent prescription.

They are monthly contacts so I've thrown them.

Go and have a chat with a pharmacist - they should be able identify any problems

22qtutor · 08/02/2023 19:43

Try chloramphenicol eye drops, they sell them over the counter. They should clear up a small infection, if there is one.

louise5754 · 09/02/2023 14:06

Thank you
