Surgical milk diet

Hi

I'm having my gallbladder out and have been requested to do the surgical milk diet, and what I wondered if anyone else had done this and did they have any tips?

I'm allowed 4 pints of milk, a salty drink, a pint of jelly and 2 pints of other sugar free drinks.

It's going to be tough as I'm not a jelly lover (veggie!) nor do I drink much milk generally Sad

This is going to be hard!

Never heard of this OP but bumping for you. When you say you're allowed those things, over what time period?

familyissues12345 · 09/02/2023 20:00

Thanks for the bump @ladymacbeth !

I'm allowed those per day, but since I started 3 days ago I've only had one Jelly and about 2 pints of milk. I just can't bring myself to do it. It's leaving me feeling rotten though

I'm not a great drinker generally, so trying to drink that much is really hard!

I'm making sure I have squash though, just hate the other stuff

How often do you have to eat/drink like that?

familyissues12345 · 09/02/2023 20:16

Whoops missed that out the OP! I've got to do two weeks

🤮🤮🤮
If you'd said one day, I'd have just done the squash, and a bit of jelly. WTF is a salty drink?
I cannot abide drinking milk. Flashbacks to gagging on warm milk at school.
For 2 weeks? To what benifit? I couldn't do it. Ca they offer an alternative, lower dairy, option?

I had my gallbladder out about 12 months ago. The only requirement was 12h nill by mouth.

Keyhole surgery, day ward, in and out within half a day.

The diet you mention is the one you ho kn ahead of gastric band surgery. Not sure why you're bring asked to do it before gallbladder removal. Are you having open surgery? Or (you don't gave to answer) very overweight?

Hi, I had my gallbladder out last year in July and had to follow the same ‘liver shrinkage diet’.

In the end I contacted the dieticians at the hospital and they gave me an alternative SlimFast diet. Think it was 6 shakes a day.

Really important that you follow some sort of diet before surgery because if your liver is too big they will not do the surgery.

Can you contact the dieticians? It should be on your pre-op paperwork. Failing that, contact your booking coordinator for that info.

Wishing you all the best.
