Hi,my daughter had a abdominal scan in December(suspected uti),few weeks later we received a report through the post(full with technical details which I didn’t really understand, but I think all was ok)until yesterday when I received a text message with confirmation of appointment at the children’s hospital.Stupidly me or my husband trew the letter away and obviously I can’t really remember what exactly it says and I am panicking now.
My question is do you usually get a follow up appointment after a ultrasound?I don’t really know what the appointment is for but I am assuming is a follow up appointment.
I will call her gp tomorrow morning and ask if the have the report but I have been really worried since yesterday.
I am sorry about my long post.I am new to mumsnet.

It depends. It could be an appointment to discharge you because everything is fine (less likely if in person though). It could be the scan is fine so we need to test other things to find out what’s wrong. If there was something serious in the scan I would have expected to have heard sooner and by phone so I wouldn’t worry too much.

Dd has had 2 ultrasounds (both clear), the paeds referral came with a follow up call and a pre booked appointment, gp referral we just got a letter. So I think it depends who sent you, did the children’s hospital send you for the scan?

Yes, it was the children’s hospital. It was back in October so I don’t really remember if they only sent as for a scan.

DS had a an ultrasound scan on some lymph nodes on his neck. We were told at the time that all looked okay but we were given a follow up with the original referrer (doctor) to essentially same the same and make a plan from there (which was simply to discharge.) I think it’s standard protocol.

BouncingWorms · 05/02/2023 15:06

yeah, I really wouldn’t worry if the appointment is with the people who sent you. If you are going to call though it should be there not the gp.

Thank you.Our appointment is for 9th March.I did ask the lady who performed the scan if everything was good, she didn’t say much only that looks ok to her.

So when my son had a uti we had an ultrasound first, which was fine.
It's then routine for them to have another test, some weeks later where they have dye injected into them and an x ray.

I would ring the department if you've thrown the letter away as for the above your in hospital for a good chunk of the day.

I did ring the hospital this morning and spoke to one of the receptionist. She said it is a routine ultrasound, needs to be done 3 months after the first one.
I rang our gp,but they still haven’t received copy of the report.

Anyone had to have a follow up ultrasound?I have been reading they don’t do that if everything was ok with the first one.My anxiety is super high right now😩
