Post-extraction. Removed Thursday afternoon. What do you think?

Does it hurt?
If not, if it was me there would be nothing there I'd be alarmed by.

Swish some warm salt water round your mouth a couple of times. Is it still there? Could just be loose dead gum from the extraction.
If the area goes bright red or yellow then I'd head back to the dentist.

It looks absolutely fine to me. The white stuff, if that’s what is concerning you, is granulation tissue as the socket starts to heal.

Thanks. Been rinsing with saltwater after meals to keep clean. It's just that yesterday it was all white. Now I'm concerned about the new fleshy red bit at the top. I'm worried I've swished some of the healing tissue away. Terrified of dry socket!

I've had dry socket. Not nice but it can be dealt with, so don't be too terrified.
Don't swish the saltwater too ferociously - I just very gently rinse.

m1s · 05/02/2023 09:04

@FindingMeno thanks. Yeah I've been gently rinsing. Mainly just holding the salt water over the area but if food has stuck to it then gently swished it through to remove it. What does a dry socket look like? And when did it start if you don't mind me asking?

@m1s I couldn't see it ( it was a wisdom tooth), but it hurt.
I guess it was about a day or so, but I'm not sure.
I just noticed that instead of things settling down, it was starting to hurt again.
Went to the dentist and it was packed with something, had antibiotics, and problem sorted.

@FindingMeno ok thank you. I'll keep an eye on it for a few days. I guess if I'm not feeling any pain then no need to worry. Thanks again!
