Ds has red raw fingers

Ds (2 tommorow) has always had bouts of peeling skin on his fingers and since he was old enough he has picked at it each time they peel.

They have started peeling again and he has picked them so that they are now red raw right down to the bottom of his fingers.

Anyone have any ideas as to why he gets this peeling and what i can do to stop it, or stop him picking it ???

Can you get him to sleep in gloves? Not sure what creams etc you might use.

Well i did think about getting some cotton gloves, but bearing in mind that he won't keep his gloves on when in the buggy, i'm not sure it would work.

I'm surprised he is still picking at them because they look so sore, but he sits there transfixed by it.

Maybe try and smoother them in vaseline and put gloves on overnight to give them a chance to heal. Although you really need to stop him picking it. Try some kind of diversion tactic???

CC, does he suck his fingers a lot?
I ask because my DD has peeling skin on her hands were she sucks her thumbs and knuckles (she is 10 months old) ... she also gets an eczema type reaction around her mouth when she dribbles.
I have found that giving her a pro biotic (acidophilus, available at chemists and health food shops) neutralises her saliva and although she still dribbles and sucks her hands (occupational hazard of being a teething baby) her hands and the area around her mouth have improved considerably.
Another mumsnetter (Kinderbob) gave me that little tip and it really helped.

Erm i don't think he sucks his fingers no.

He has had it loads of times before, but it's only the last few times that he has noticed it and picked it.

He definatly wouldn't keep gloves on but could i bandage them do you think ????

I'll look in to that GoCP Smile
